Chicago expat: Glad to see another jazz fan on board. I listen a lot to Hutcherson's Happenings, and should probably check out Oblique.

"Happenings" is a great album, and "Oblique" comes from that same sound. They have the same line-up, though with Albert Stinson on bass instead of Cranshaw. And it was also part of the RVG remaster series, so there's plenty of copies out there, and you should be able to find one pretty cheap. I highly recommend it. And I'm with you on this; it's always good to run into other jazz fans. Cheers.
And while I'm in this thread, here's the albums I've been listening to today...

    Jeremy Udden - "Plainville"
    Diego Barber - "Calima"
    Azure - "When She Smiles"
Billy Mitchell - "Introducing Billy Mitchell"
    John Adams - "Shaker Loops"
    Alice Clark - "Alice Clark"

Since MHays posted a link last week on facebook, I have gone back to check this out several times: "African Storm". This group is from Slovenia.

I like it better than the original music video by Toto.

    Any Bert Jansch fans here?

I've been listening to the first-time CD releases of LA Turnaround, Santa Barbara Honeymoon, and A Rare Conundrum for the last few days. These are all albums from the mid-seventies that have been unavailable for years. Good times! Too bad he had to cancel his tour this summer though.

    Marcin Wasilewski Trio - "January"
If you want a softer jazz piano trio album with both some bouncy moments and some haunting ones, you might want to look into picking this album up. It's regarded by many to be the jazz album of 2008. I've had some success with it playing in the background during a dinner party. It blends.

Bill Frisell's excellent new album "Disfarmer". For anyone unfamiliar with Frisell's work, his music gets classified under Jazz Americana, and the sound from one album to the next can really vary. This album has more of his eerie bluegrass sound. It's also one of the prettiest albums I've heard in a while.

Yesterday I was golfing for big money..Big money and I was 2 strokes down on the 17th with 270 yards left to the hole..It was now or never time so I put on my extra dark sunglesses, put this on the IPOD, and visualized the shot... I stared it down for for a full 2 minutes while listening.. I did'nt budge an inch in an atempt to psyche out the enemy..I then steped up to the ball faded a three wood up and over and around some trees, over water and a trap, and right onto the green 3 feet from the cup..I dropped that for an eagle- my opponant was so rattled that he 3 putted for a bogey- I got up and down for par on 18 and won enough money to buy my kid a brand new Nissan Versa, with a cash for clunker trade in...It was the music..Without the music I never woulda made that shot

Sorry, but the only thing that comes to mind is my dear friend Carl Spackler (Caddyshack):

"What an incredible Cinderella story! This unknown, comes out of nowhere, to lead the pack at Augusta. He's at the final hole. He's about 455 yards away, he's gonna hit about a 2-iron, I think. Oh, he got all of that. The crowd is standing on its feet here at Augusta. The normally reserved crowd is going wild . . . for this young Cinderella who's come out of nowhere. He's got about 350 yards left, he's going to hit about a 5-iron, it looks like, don't you think? He's got a beautiful backswing . . . that's- oh, he got all of that one! He's gotta be pleased with that! The crowd is just on its feet here. He's a Cinderella boy. Tears in his eyes, I guess, as he lines up this last shot. He's got about 195 yards left, and he's got a, looks like he's got about an 8-iron. This crowd has gone deadly silent... Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now about to become the Masters champion. It looks like a mirac- it's in the hole! It's in the hole!"

Reminds me of the time I was golfing with Elvis and the Sultan of Brunei, and we decided to make things interesting with a friendly wager. I had to focus, so I put on my earphones, queued up some Foghat, and sank a 467-yard putt with one hand tied behind my back. Won the state of Oregon, I did.

Unfortunately, I risked it all on a single turn of pitch-and-toss, and lost.

Steely Dan at The Chicago Theater last night.....oh boy!!!!! This was better than Christmas, Easter and my birthday combined. It falls into the books as the second best day of my life closing trailing the day I met the special lady and easily beating out the day we got married (too stressful-only going to do that one time) as third. Anyway where do I start, opening up with Black Cow set the tone perfectly. Daddy Don't Live in That NYC No More was a pleasant surprise. And closing out with My Old School just to come back for an encore of Kid Charlemagne. One word: unbelievable. If you haven't seen Steely Dan live, I highly recommend it, it's an experience that defines divine.
