    Fleetwood Mac: "I'm so Afraid"

This is a cut from their live 1997 album, with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. It essentialy reprises the band's '70s material after Jeremy Spencer and Peter Green left. IMHO, Nicks is expendable as other members can carry the vocal load, but Buckingham is one of the underrated guitarists of the period.

No matter if you like them or not, Mick Fleetwood is one of the great percussionists of the period as well.

    LCD Soundsystem - Home

This album is amazing. Its amazing that it topped the last one, but I find myself listening to it over and over again. Last night I sat at my computer finding crap sites to surf just to listen to more of it.

Anyway, probably not everyone's cup of tea, but if you know and have previously liked LCD, go get it and lets celebrate!

In keeping with my goal of exploring all things John Zorn...

-"In Search of the Miraculous" with the Alhambra trio plus Kenny Wolleson on vibes. Just as good as "Alhambra Love Songs", but with more drive to it.
-"Femina" - Gorgeous experimental classical with Zorn's string quartet.
-"Book of Angels: Lucifer" - The Bar Kokhba chamber ensemble from the Masada line-up run through a set of sephardic inspired Zorn compositions.

Some songs from the album can be listened to on his myspace...

I've had "Great Gig in the Sky" and "Any Colour You Like" running through my head on & off all morning. I dozed off while listening to DSOTM on my flight home from Vegas on Monday, I guess the music lodged itself into my brain. Could be much worse, I suppose ;)

A hell of a volume, and a great way for Columbia to end it's retrospective on Mile's collected period works. The title is a bit misleading, as the recordings span a significant chunk of time and numerous lineup changes - '72 to '76 I believe - stretching beyond what was established on On the Corner. There is a (dis)continuity of feeling however - dark, brooding, elliptical funk; Repetition-repetition; and noise, mostly abstract with rare hints of color. Given the intensity of some of the work, it's no surprise that Miles basically disappeared artistically after the last recordings.

I find this set to be one of the most satisfying pieces of music I've ever heard. If you like hard stuff, this is harder stuff.

Favorites tracks include On the Corner (take 4), Rated X, Ife, Chieftan, He Loved Him Madly and Calypso Frelimo.

    Obviously, I'm obsessed with Miles.
