I was addressing the second paragraph of the OP. Yes, I agree that to command someone to only eat vegan in their presence in absolutely overkill. However, there was a second point (it seemed to me, at least) that a bride and groom must offer other entrees to their guests, presumably ones that are non-vegan. I don't think they are required to provide anything of the sort.

Show me that it's possible to eat well and have no animal products. If most people can't tell that the entrees are vegan, with their preconceived notions, they'll immediately think it's bad no matter what. But if you serve really fantastic food, then it's not a big deal.

Yes, I agree that this should be the case. But I give wedding meals a pass. In my experience, they invariably suck. The only good weddings meals I remember from working were from Spiaggia, some place in Racine (edit: I just looked it up. Of all places, it was the Racine Country Club), an Indian wedding at India House, a wedding at the Culinary Institute of America (St. Helena campus), and a few more in the Milwaukee area (suprisingly enough, Wisconsin weddings tend to be good for food, in my experience). That's a grand total of about eight, total, out of 120 or so. My expectations are set quite low for wedding meals.

    binko,

I understand what you are saying, if I dont like something served at an event I dont eat it, and stop for an Italian Beef, or something after the function.

I agree with your point about not offering a special menu for those of other dietary practices, I know when I got married I didnt offer a vegetarian option, and didnt feel required to do so.
