I understand that breakfast this morning was assorted leftovers from the past several days.

    For lunch today . . .

    Image
My guess is that after eating Pat's for the past couple of days, this would have been a real letdown . . . but probably not for our boy

No update yet on Sunday's dinner, so that'll have to wait until the morning.

We've got an exciting field trip planned for Monday's lunch. I really hope it goes off as scheduled! 8)

just read most of the thread and found the photos of pizza just yummy
Being born in Luigi's pizza parlor in Burlington WI , I think I can be considerd a pizza pro and Pizza Boy is my new idol
Also I just had a pizza from Johns in Whiting a few hours ago( thin sausage/pep) and have to say it is one of the best and that person in the thread should give it another try
Will Pizza Boy be making any public appearances perhaps on the 31st? I would love to share some pizza with him

Honestly, at first I thought this would be so easy but after reading this day in and day out I can say I'm amazed at his willpower. Each time I read what he had for breakfast I'm grateful for the apple I just ate. You're a god amongst men Pizza Boy. 5 more days!

Ironically, I realize now that I probably would have had an easier time winning this if I were on the other side of the bet. Of course, I'd probably be dead by now, so maybe not.

    Quick update . . .

Yesterday afternoon our boy went to a party with a bunch of old friends. Of course, they'd all read about the bet in the Tribune and they were really giving him a hard time. In fact, some people were coming up from behind him and trying to stuff potato chips into his mouth like someone dunking a basketball (fwiw, if they had been successful, it wouldn't have counted anyway). He resisted, ate only pizza and finished up his day with the leftover Home Run Inn pizza pictured above for dinner.

No breakfast yet this morning and the lunch field trip is on schedule . . .

In advance of the aforementioned field trip, our boy was starving, so we actually made a pit stop before heading out . . .

Slice of sausage for the road. I wasn't crazy about pizza being eaten in my car but he was careful.

As he wolfed it down, we headed south to the home of none other than G Wiv himself, who's been perfecting the craft of grilled pizza lately. When we arrived, Gary was hard at work prepping pizzas . . .

Across the board, the pizzas were terrific -- crispy crusts and excellent toppings. Hell, even the meatless ones were wonderful.

Thanks again, to Gary, for making us such an excellent lunch.

    Ron,

It was an honor and a pleasure to be a small part of Pizza Boy's adventure, he is a true champion.

Your hot dogs were tasty on the pizza, the couple I simmered for dinner even better. Juicy, garlicky, with a distinctive natural casing snap and smooth, yet not shy, texture. You really have a way with sausage.

    Enjoy,
    Gary

Several people asked for it and awaited it eagerly while we we watched. It's not saying much, but it was better than some of the other items on the buffet.

I'm definitely going to send this pic to him. It is a starchy delight to be sure. They offer a pizza topped with ziti at New York Slices in Highland Park, which I'm pretty sure I've tried (obviously not as memorable as one might expect).

I was out of the office for lunch today but he -- and the rest of the crew -- ordered lunch from Judy's Pizza in Highland Park. Based on previous experiences, expectations were fairly low but according to our boy, Judy's knocked it out of the park. He went with a large, thin-crust sausage, Italian beef and onion, which he reported to me was nearly perfect. When I spoke to him, he was excited that he had some leftovers ready for tomorrow morning's breakfast. Supposedly, pictures were taken but they haven't made their way to me yet. If they arrive, I will update.

Tonight for dinner, he finished off the Tombstone he baked up this morning . . .

I caught this thread when it first started, but I totally forgot it was in the Other Culinary Chat Forum!

I'm a huge pizza eater, I usually eat it 4-5 times a week with no problem. Not only do I know he (and many others) could pull this off, but I am sure it can be done without gaining much weight. I just had pizza 5 days straight and didn't gain a pound. I guess some can pull it off easier than others.

What makes this thread an additional treat for me is that he's going to all the Highland Park/North Shore joints I've grown up with. I never had Seul's in Northfield though. I forgot about Judy's (which is actually in Highland Park now, not Deerfield).

Here's a suggestion if you have time - Gino's East is located in Deerfield at the Embassy Suites off Lake Cook Rd. Little Red Hen in Glencoe has pizza too. But one must ask... No Pequod's? No Burt's? No Marie's?

First, I'd kill for your metabolism. :)

Fwiw, I love Mama Louise's Little Red Hen and have been eating there since around 1975 (although I don't think it has been Mama's since that date). I run into Jimmy Ryba frequently, since we both enjoy happy hour at the same bar fairly often. We do occasionally get lunch from his place but it just hasn't come up this month. Perhaps it will before the week is out.

Not to get too "Oprah," but as far as Burt's, Pequod's and Marie's go, I cannot go (that far) out of my way to be an enabler. Wasn't taking him to Gary's dumb enough on my part?!

Seriously, though, they're all relatively far from our office and don't hold up particulary well over longer trips. I think it's clear by now that he's certainly not going to drive that far for lunch and I don't feel particularly incented to do so, either. I'd love for him to try Marie's -- because he loves thin-crust -- but that might have to wait until after the bet's over.

Just wanted to say that you can get a mac and cheese pizza slice at Ian's on Clark st just south of Wrigley Field. I think their slices are the best deal in the city right now given their size, quality and creativity. The regular pepperoni slice is under $3 for contest purposes.

Was it ever determined if fake sausage, like Morningstar products, would count as valid?

Tremendous thread. Just a suggestion, but perhaps it should be cross-posted to the eating out in chicagoland index, too--- I know I hardly ever peek in this particular index.
