Made some roux in the oven today
mixed a cup of oil & cup (+ a little) of flour in a cast iron skillet and then
into a 350˚ oven for 3 hours. Only stirred a few times

Post #454 - February 25th, 2009, 9:46 amLooks good, but I am always a little suspicious of sea-side joints in places such as FL, GA, SC and LA that promote local seafood but also feature Maine lobster and Alaskan crab. It usually makes me keep walking. Makes me wonder about the other stuff. If nothing else, there's a frozen food vendor in thier life. I'd rather there not be, what with the ocean right there.

Post #455 - February 25th, 2009, 10:11 amits all good...(I had plenty of local shrimp, and fresh fish at other spots, it was worth the 90 or so mile detour to us to give this place a try.), if a seaside restuarant has crab legs, crawfish, jonah crab, and shrimp on the menu I am typically all over it. Nothing better than sipping some tequila, & some cold ones, while cracking some shellfish & sitting outside looking over the ocean in my world.
Sadly snow crab and king crab(2 of my favorite things to eat) come from cold weather climates, so they are places I will probably never visit( Chicago is far enough north for me).

We ordered this as a side for breakfast... It was so good we came back and ordered 4 of these for lunch (see below)
Oyster Po'boys
Though that was after the 4 lbs of crawfish we had for an appetizer!

Great photos, thanks! I love oyster po'boys so much, that even in New Orleans, with all of the great food, I struggle to convince myself to eat anything else. The waitress was quite confused by our order... Eggs and Biscuits with Gravy, French Toast Special, 2 OJs and oh yes, a side order of fried oysters! Should have gotten a full order...
Then when we returned to get the po'boys, she recognized us and called us "The Crazy Girls who had fried oysters for breakfast"!

Post #480 - March 15th, 2009, 6:21 pmSpent most of the day Sunday cooking. Cream of broccoli soup for lunch, marinated some sliced pork, and chicken wings, then took a nap, and then finished off the citrus mariated chicken wings(moist, and flavorfull) in the broiler, and stir fried the pork with some noodles in the wok.
The cream of broccoli was my favorite, followed closely by the velvety, spicy, stir fried pork.
