This is on Monday night (right now) until midnight on WGN-AM ( podcast link)

(Monday, November 26): Do you think you know how to cook? Do you know that you don't know how to cook? Either way, tonight's program is for you as we talk with Chris Kimball, the editor of Cook's Illustrated Magazine and Chris Koetke, V.P. at the Kendall College School of Culinary Arts. The occasion is the publication of "The Science of Cooking," edited by Kimball and explaining the basic rules of kitchen "technique" as well as adding on a few hundred perfected (and comparatively simple!) recipes.

WDCB's Mambo Express, and excellent Latin music show that runs on Sundays from 3:00 to 5:00. Since I'm busy then, I record the show for free using www.dar.fm. Then I can play the show back whenever I want (there is no podcast or archive on the WDCB web site).

    Hi,

I am an avid radio listener. I listen to far more radio than I ever watch television. I especially enjoy podcasts, because if I mentally tune out I can rewind and find my way back into a conversation thread or story.

It has been tough recently as many of my favorites have gone away. It began in September, when WLS's Don Wade and Roma morning went on hiatus due to Don's illness. The silver lining in the morning rotation shake-up has been the mid-morning show with John Kass and Jake Hartford.

I have been waking up early for years on Saturdays to listen to Awake with Jake (Hartford). It was a crazy free-wheeling show with chatter that ended up in places I never expected. So when Jake went to weekday mornings, it was terrific. Especially since Jake kept his morning show on Saturdays.

In the last month, my radio landscape changed considerably. Milt Rosenberg, whose programs I have linked to more than any others, was removed from WGN along with his podcasts. I always learned something listening to his program. Don Wade and Roma decided not to return for health reasons. The silver lining was Jake Hartford and John Kass was now a permanent fixture.

A week ago Saturday, I woke up just before 6:00 am to flip on the radio. Instead of Awake with Jake, it was an infomercial. This Monday I learned Jake Hartford (Jim Edwards) died unexpectedly over the weekend.

Consequently, I will likely contribute very little to this thread going into the future. However, I will link to one of the first radio bits Jake Hartford did for the Bob Collins show:

    Furtive Family of Fine Frogs

I admit I don't always like change. Missing any one of these is hole, to loose so many so close in time is just plain sad.

Cathy, I'm sad too to see Milt Rosenberg's show go. There's not much left to listen to on WGN--once a great radio station--any more.

I am glad to have a cache of Extension 720 podcasts saved on my computer to listen to for a while longer.

Someone started a wikipedia page with links to prior Extension 720 podcasts: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extension_720

Milt may have plans of either moving to another station and/or making his podcast library available. He gave an e-mail address for people to contact him: MiltonRosenberg45@hotmail.com. If you are interested in being alerted to his podcasts, state podcast on the subject line.

If you are on facebook, you might want to like his page.

Meanwhile, I saw this comment on Chicago Radio and Media:
    * Not only is WGN-AM's Milt Rosenberg a top-rated host on the radio each weeknight, but he also rules the Internet. WGN's statistics for their October podcasts shows that out of the top 30 podcasts, 26 belonged to Milt Rosenberg. (#18, #24, #25, and #30 belonged to Nick Digilio.) In the past, Milt Rosenberg's podcasts, which have always been popular, rarely achieved even 50,000 downloads in a month. This October, 21 podcasts were downloaded over 100,000 times, including one that eclipsed 510,000 downloads. (This was the show which followed the first Presidential debate in early October.) Of the 9,543,492 downloads WGN Radio's website had in October, the majority of downloads belonged to Milt Rosenberg shows.

I guess we are not alone enjoying his podcasts!

    Regards,
    Cathy2
