They already know. I was there for lunch today with laikom and G Wiv and we showed it to them. Also, while we were there, Dolinski called in to set up a time to come out and shoot.

Not badly misquoted -- but I said they had abundant food, not that they stuffed themselves, and I spoke of the fishing fleets, rather than of hunting. So nothing hideous. Just slightly off.

I was just watching. I see you have evolved your technique for smoked chicken: taking the unhinged leg and placing it over the breast. Is this for the whole smoking time?

I think it's rather slimy of these guys to merely include a link and not to recognize by name the guy who did the research for several years, wrote it up clearly and articulately, and brought this sandwich to the attention of the larger food community. The NPR piece adds nothing and takes a lot. NPR is the only station I listen to with some regularity; it's a wonderful source for information, but in this case, the folks who produced this piece would have done well to have been more respectful of the source.

There are stories about discovery and stories about voyages and stories about explorers. To think this was a "discovery" story, then do a story on the discovery, is clueless.

I've read his columns for a long time but have only spoken to him once. He writes nearly all the articles in the quarterly Relish magazine in Des Moines. I understand he returns nearly every reader email sent his way.

Not sure what giving props would mean, but there is a hyperlink to my blog on the nytimes website, and Kugel returned a couple emails. He made it to a bunch of places around the state, but only wrote about a few of them. Supposedly he only brings his camera into a restaurant after he is done eating there, gets people's permission to film, and just drives on down the road if it isn't special enough. If I had any complaints about the piece it would be that it sounds too positive. I am glad that Canteen Lunch in the Alley is now in a video on the NYTimes website. I have to wait until later in the month to read the comments because of the paywall.
