Just got the semi-occasional "Lakewood Balmoral Residents' Council Newsletter" and thought I'd pass along its mention of two new restaurants: one in Andersonville, one a bit more to the south.

According to the newsletter, the Bryn Mawr rehab project includes a boarded-up building on the north side of the street, east of the el tracks. The owners of Nookies have apparently been negotiating to acquire the spot and "we expect a transfer of the property to take place in the near future."

Also: "If you venture a little further south on Broadway to Gunnison Street Lofts you will soon find a new American comfort food restaurant, to be opened by the owner of the popular Silver Cloud...." The name Silver Cloud is new to me, but "American comfort food" might be a nice addition.

Walking by Pepitone's the other day, I am dismayed to report that build-out appears to be at a standstill. Nothing appears to have happened for the past couple months. Let's hope all is well.

Finally, there's a mention of the sudden Del Ray closing, including a note that ALL Del Ray locations closed. (The early story had been that just two underperforming ones had closed.) All Del Ray phones are disconnected or not answered and the alderman says she is trying to find out who owns the land (Del Ray had it on a long-term lease). This would be a wonderful spot for a new market, perhaps.... (Hint, hint, to anyone reading who has the right connections: this Del Ray was always busy. A produce market would be highly welcome.)
