For those interested, it looks like Check Please has a beta version of a website containing video content from all their episodes here:

    http://www.checkplease.tv

And no mention of Check Please would be complete without the infamous Karyn's Fresh Corner review:

    http://checkplease.tv/ViewRestaurant.as ... ant_id=109

    Click on "Watch the Review."

edit: DAMMIT! They've sucked all the fun parts out of the episode! None of the "we discovered fire about a million years ago, we should use it." Boo!

Funny they should do that, since they use the quote in the opening of their show.

    Hi,

There is one episode I have always want to see, though I don't recall which restaurant was reviewed. One pair of reviewers were a husband and wife. One spouse kept cutting off the other, which seemed like an interesting episode to catch.

Those people were great tv. One of my favorites was Tommy - a designer - who liked Chi Tung. (not a bad spot). He rivals Manase but hasn't gained the same appreciation. I wish they would put together a "gayest of" episode or an "angriest of".... or an Alpana blooper reel!

Having said that, the website is satisfying me well enough with old video until then.

What a great find - does anyone remember the "double yum" woman - I believe she was a realtor? Would love to see her again.

Couldn't find it, but my favorite was the "I'm from Arizona, so I know barbeque" girl.

    Hi,

From reading this thread, it appears the double yum was mentioned when reviewing Wholly Frijoles.

Since I've only seen a handful of Check Please shows, and wanted to catch up on a few, I was excited to hear about the website.

The Wholly Frijoles review is there, but you won't hear so much as a single yum. Likewise, in the Honey 1 segment there's no mention of Arizona. The cutting of the Myron & Phil's piece was mentioned above. It seems someone spent a lot of time and effort excising the bits that sometime make the show worth watching. Very disappointing.

But at least you still get to hear three different, educated, food-lovin' people say "chiPOL-te" in the remaining cut of the Wholly Frijoles review.

...or a "blue collar-iest of..." episode: I swear, for awhile, every show included at least one South Side guy or gal who would invariably preface every statement with: "well, I'm just a regular old meat n potatoes guy..." and then go on to slam the other guests' picks and, in turn, recommend some average greasy spoon...cuz, you know...anything else is pretentious...

Chi-Tung was recommended by a black cop, IIRC, and looking at the website, I do recall correctly. I don't remember this Tommy guy, though.

From looking more at the website, it just looks like they hacked the episodes to little 2-minute commercials with little life. I suppose it's okay as a reference tool.

My favorite part is that, apparently, Fred gave Karyn's Fresh Corner 4/5 plates.

I wonder if he knows he thought it was that good.

Yeah, I noticed that. Also, in the reviews I did, somehow they thought I would have given Timo four stars and Tanoshii three stars. I didn't say a single negative thing about Tanoshii on the show and I complained about Timo's main course as being too dry! I don't know how in the hell anyone would come to that conclusion.

This arouses suspicion that the producers jigger the ratings to make them come out exactly as conventional wisdom says they should--regardless of what the actual wisdom of the citizen-reviewers dictates.

I just checked one of my all-time favorites and found the same heavy-handed editing. The review of Nuevo Leon will always remain a classic in my mind, solely because of the reviewer, Matthew, who starts out with, "I was really impressed with the outside, you know, it's painted, 3 stories, and I thought 'This is going to be a really great margarita!'" That alone would have been enough. But in the part they edited out, he complains about the presentation of his food, noting that his chicken in mole was "all brown."

Classic. And now it's an expurgated classic.

I'm going along with Gleam's insinuation(on another thread) and imagining that yr somehow involved with the Check Please! web presence...

    ...having conceptualized thusly:

...were Check Please! to make a "gayest of" or go so far as to pinpoint any of their already obvious stereotype machinations...I'd be offended...

as amusing as some of these "gayer than gay" reviewers are...an entire show built around their clips reeks of "step n fetchit" mentality...you know..."cuz *the gays* are soooo entertaining, Chad..."

on another note(and I'm an Amanda Puck/Check Please! admirer) an entire show devoted to Alpana's nasal Twixie-isms is no finer an emetic...

I respect her accomplishments(and perhaps she's great to know in person)...but that character she plays on TV...urp...
