Has anyone seen these?Someone mentioned to me a few weeks ago seeing a push cart on Ridge in Evanston where they would sharpen your knives.

We have one of those old school guys with a cart that comes through our neighborhood once a year...usually around Memeorial Day. It's great to see this old timer come around plying his trade. It helps gives the neighborhood that old tyme community feeling I remember as a child. The last time I had my knives sharpened by this guy, I resolved to never do it again, though. The old geezer must have lost his touch or something, because the four knives I had him sharpen seemed marginally sharper for a short time, but did not hold their edge. From now on, I will take my knives to Northwestern Cutlery for sharpening.

You have to be careful on who you allow to sharpen your knives. Some people do a really poor job and car grind your knives into oblivion.

Some people can do too good a job. When I first got into the hospital food service business, the hospital administrator asked if we would send our kitchen knives to the guy who handled the hospital's surgical instruments. BAD IDEA. Knives can be TOO sharp. We had a couple of bad cuts including your truly.
