We missed the April issue of Saveur (#110), which featured "Classic Pastas" (it was likely swiped out of our mail room by a neighbor...sigh...). This issue was highly anticipated by my wife, and we would love to get a replacement copy.

Does anyway have a copy of the issue that they would be willing to part with? I'm happy to pay for it and pick it up. Please send me a PM.

    Many thanks in advance!

Can't help, but if it makes you feel any better, it didn't cover classic pastas in general. It's just that the featured article was about the debate over what constitutes a traditional Ragu alla Bolognese, and it provided 6-8 different recipes for the dish.

    Hi,

I would contact Saveur. They may just send you a replacement copy because there is the chance it is the post office and not the neighbor.

Good point. But if they're not helpful in that regard, I believe you can order back issues on their website, and I think it's safe to assume they haven't run out of that one yet :-)

Thanks for the tips. We did report the missing issues (there was another as well) to Saveur, and they extended our subscription by two months, which I was happy with. I haven't been able to figure out how to order back issues on their web site, but I'll keep looking.

And yes, it very likely was the post office...I should be a bit more charitable in my opinions of my neighbors, I suppose :)

Back issues are $7.50/copy; call subscriber services to order: 877.717.8925

You can access all of the recipes for that issue here. I made Anna Nanni's bolognese (even ground the beef and pork from whole cuts) and it was fantastic, IIDSSM. I was out of regular tomato paste, so I used the Spice House's tomato powder, and it worked just fine.

Thanks. I looked and some of the recipes online, but I'm a sucker for print media (strange place to make that assertion, I realize). I also called the customer service line, but they are out of stock for both issues (108 and 110).

Same here. In fact, until I read this thread, I didn't even realize I missed an issue. The May issue arrived today. Before that, the last one I got was the butter issue (was that March?)

Weird but my pasta issue never came either. The last issue I received was the butter issue and havent gotten any since and I subscribed 3 months ago and paid the bill then too.

Maybe the Chicago shipment box "fell" off a truck...does LTH have some sort of outfit that I dont know about?

There must be some serious distribution problems at Saveur. Until I saw this thread, I didn't realize that I hadn't received the pasta issue (#110), either. And I've seen the American Crab issue (#111) on newstands, and haven't gotten that one, either.

    Hi,

My mail comes via the USPS Palatine distribution center. I have both copies, which I am beginning to feel very fortunate.

If the OP had not highlighted this issue, which now seems less and less the neighbor, then it may not have been as recognizable as a problem.

Good luck on persuing your lost issues.

the only reason i noticed my pasta issue hadnt come, was when i opened an email from saveur advertisiing something (they do that now!), and there was a picture of the pasta cover. havent gotten a may issue yet either. i just called saveur, again, to see if the may had been sent. when i called on april 21 i was told the pasta issue(april) would be sent to me. today, they tell me there are no more april issues available and they sent me the may issue, as apparently, i should have received that as well by april 21. i insisted that the person i speak with tell his boss that there are many chicagoans who never got the april issue. i also plan to call my local post office and complain. I URGE EVERYONE WHO DIDNT GET APRIL AND/OR MAY (IF YOU DONT HAVE IT TODAY, ITS PROBABLY NOT COMING) TO CALL THEIR LOCAL POST OFFICE AND COMPLAIN. AS I'M SURE SAVEUR SENT THEM OUT AND , AS USUAL, THE CHICAGO POST OFFICE HAS LOST THEM. my last call to my local post office (logan square) revealed that the newly instated station manager was already gone, (3rd one in the last year or so), and no one was in charge (so i was told). the wicker park station (where i buy stamps, etc.) is equally chaotic. i have constant trouble with mail service. its terribly frustrating and i believe anyone with similiar problems needs to raise a stink. It's also a good idea to call Saveur and let them know that others havent received the magazine. maybe someone will care enough to talk to our postal service. justjoan

I just got off the phone with Saveur's subscription dept. They told me that the April (pasta) issue is permanently out of stock. They offered to extend my subscription for 3 months for the inconvenience. That's good enough for me. In terms of the newest May (crab) issue, mine just arrived yesterday, so if you haven't yet gotten yours I'd wait another week or so for delivery before going into full blown panic mode.

I read your post, called, and they said they could only extend my subscription by one issue! I mentioned that a friend of mine got a 3 month subscription, but the person I talked to said she couldn't do that. :x

I certainly don't want to poison the well here, but I found it interesting that the tout selling subscriptions today at the Fancy Food Show, had the crab issue and many, many recent back issues, but no pasta issue.

I haven't received either yet and I wish I'd picked up the crab issue while I was there, but I was laden with brochures and until now, confident it was only a pasta issue issue.

I know it's hardly the same, but I'd be happy to loan out my issue if people want to make photocopies.

Or, feel free to start bidding for my 100 percent original, 1st run, sort of mint condition (some bolognese spatter), now out-of-print collector's edition.

    Hi all,

I am a longtime lurker and so thankful for all this forum has provided for me (the restaurants/recipes/etc. are too numerous to mention). So, I finally decided to give back because of my frustration with Saveur. I, too, missed the pasta and crab issue and called them at the end of April to complain. They said they would send me another crab issue, but they were out of the pasta. I have never received that replacement copy either. So I called back today, told them that there were many people in Chicago who weren't receiving their magazines and they gave me (and all of you) a solution. The customer service rep I spoke to said that everyone should call and request a 'publication watch' be put on our subscriptions. This means that they will send out our magazines separately (starting with the August issue as June/July has already gone out) with a tracking service so if it gets lost they will know where it is happening. Great news! And the other great news is they have more copies of the pasta issue in stock (although now they are out of the crab ones). So, hopefully this helps all of us who just want to read the magazine.

welcome bon2mic: i'm one of the people still waiting for my replacement copy of the april issue.(it was mailed 4/21 and could take 2-3 weeks (!)) i read your post with relief, called saveur and was told in absolute terms that the 'publication watch' can only be used for someone who has missed 3 ISSUES IN A ROW. i'm assuming you werent told that, or you would have reported it. i told the customer service person that you had missed only 2 issues and were getting the 'watch'. she insists they will not do it for 2 missed issues. i told her about all the lth'ers who have called and been told different things ('we'll replace the copy', 'there are no more copies', 'we'll extend your subscription', etc.) but she had no comment to make. i'm feeling quite annoyed with them. but thanks for trying..... justjoan

Wow. They did not tell me the three issues - maybe he was counting the replacement issue as one of the three. And your replacement issue is more than 3 weeks overdue! He specifically told me that I should tell all the people on the website that they should call and get the watch on their issues because he was concerned that there was such a problem in Chicago. Maybe talking to a supervisor would help.

I only recently subscribed to Sauveur and my first issue received was the butter issue, I did not get the pasta or crab issue. I also haven't called in yet but today in the mail in an unmarked (aside from where it was coming from, nothing about Sauveur) yellow envelope I received two small booklets titled "Italian classics" volumes one and two. Not sure if this is a "compliments of the house" type thing for Chicago residents or they are just included in my subscription. Either they they got to me, but I had no idea what was going to be inside, maybe they need to start sending the mag like they do other types of magazines, where you cant see what it is.

To the previous response, i apologize if my comment confused you, but i can not list the name of the company i work with, but i can assure you i am looking into the problem personally (as Saveur is my customer) i do not however work for them i work for the company that prints this title. We are showing by our records that all issues went out to the proper address's but something happened along the way with the post office, as you know the chicagoland BMC (Bulk Mail Center's) are the worst in the nation and are being revamped, as far as the publisher sending out old issue's......this is something that is done very rarely, as the process is VERY expensive, both reprinting, binding, and mailing. I will say that if it wasn't for this blog, this issue never would have been raised to my company, i kid you not but this blog is what was emailed to me on my work email from CORPORATE, so someone must have been reading this blog. I hope this issue does not happen again, but i can say keep blogging, its reaching more people then you realize!!
