    From today's Chicago Tribune:

A brake fire sparked a massive barbecue on Interstate Highway 80 near Hazel Crest overnight when a truck hauling 25 tons of beef ribs went up in flames, state police said.

The semi-trailer truck was headed east on I-80 about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday and was exiting onto southbound Interstate Highway 294 when a fire started in the braking system, igniting a blaze that consumed the entire trailer, said Master Sgt. David Bird of the Illinois State Police. The driver escaped without injury.

The trailer was loaded with about 50,000 pounds of beef ribs, Bird said. He could not say what cut of ribs they were, but added, "There was no sauce."

Gosh, that's less than 5 minutes from my house. I can't believe it. I would have run right over with a bottle of sauce, had I known!

When I first began reading the story yesterday I was rather concerned . . . until I got to the part about it being beef ribs, a bbq form I just never really got. There's lots of great beef options to bbq but, imo, beef ribs just isn't one of them.

That's funny - I had just the opposite reaction. The easy availability of beef ribs is one of the things I miss most about living in Texas, and the thought of so many ribs, all alone on the highway, brought a tear to my eye and a grumble to my stomach.
