I when I first read the posting guidelines, way back when, I wondered if we would ever know what our mayor cooks:

    - Sometimes food conversations have political or religious implications. We don't want to stifle talk that brings in that larger world, but there comes a point where a discussion leaves the road of culinary chat and takes off for a completely different destination—at which point it belongs on a completely different board. So here's a pocket guide:
--Talking about a mayor who cooks killer waffles is good.
--Talking about a mayor who kills waffle cookers is starting to drift.
--Talking about a mayor who waffles on killings in Cook County is off-topic.

I still don't know, but I do know what Barack Obama and John McCain like to eat, thanks to a new Wall Street Journal article.

Barack Obama likes Topolombapo, while Michelle Obama likes Sepia. The McCains like Asylum and Tee Pee in Arizona. The end of the article has some recipes that may be of interest.

My apolitical posts on Governor Ryan's last breakfast before prison were deleted last year; hopefully we're in a new era. I personally find this information interesting. I can also add that the Obamas like La Petit Folie and Dixie Kitchen in Hyde Park.

I noted with chagrin that the WSJ absolutely savaged Tee Pee Tap Room, at which I've been eating Sonoran-style Mexican food for 35+ years. It's not the best of the genre, but a non-corporate resto of that longevity in the Valley is a rare thing indeed, and should be supported. Good red chile, good green corn tamales, cold beer. Yum.
