I'm going to be in Paris in late October and would like to spend a day in a cooking class or at least a demo class. There are plenty to be had, of course, and there's no problem finding them, but I am interested to know if any of you have taken classes and could recommend one? Thank you.

Try Samira or Eric here if they're not sold out. This is a fantastic company (the owner, Karen, might be lurking on the board somewhere, in which case, best greetings from Matt).

I went to Cordon Bleu in Paris but for the whole program. They used to offer single day classes but check to make sure.

You may try Daniel Rose, chef/owner of Spring. He sometimes does demo classes at the restaurant. He's actually a Chicago area native and his place is one of the hottest in Paris - often compared to Schwa, which it resembles a bit in style.

For serious, hardcore classes, Pierre Herme offers them but for professional pastry chefs only.

Overall I recommend the awesome Paule Caillat at Promendades Gourmandes. I first met Paule at a party at Dorie Greenspan's home. Between them, they know everything and everybody there is to know about food in Paris.

    Louisa-

Thanks so much for that link - I should add that gourmet walking tours and wine tastings are also offered - so that's a great resource for anyone visiting Paris.

You're so welcome. Let me also add for gourmet walking tours Context Travel. (Full disclosure - I work with them. I've led market and patisserie walks - coming up, absinthe.) They do a lot of other walks too - art, led by insiders who work at the Louvre, etc. - if you're into that kind of thing. ;)
