I'm attending Kendall starting this summer and I'm currently trying to look for any scholarship opportunities that exist. Does anyone know of any resources that I might be able to try or have any advice?

    Thx

My only advice to my nephew who is looking to attend a culinary program is to head to one affiliated with a public university (i.e., Midwest Culinary Institute at Cincinnati State that is affiliated with the University of Cincinnati) as the costs are far more reasonable ($5-6k/ yr). Financing $10-15k is a lot more managable than $50-60k.

    ShaggyWillis,

I work in the admissions office at Kendall College and can assist you with some of your financial concerns. Need and merit based scholarships may be available through the school for you. If you know who your enrollment advisor is, feel free to give them a call directly or you can contact me at jtobin@kendall.edu with your questions.

Thansk JTobin, I actually have been giving stuff from your school, but a lot of it doesn't seem to fit for me. I just wanted some other people's opinions on what to look at/for, etc. But thanks. :)

eGullet.org typically offers at least a few culinary industry-related scholarships each year. I'm not sure of the details but I'm guessing they can found over at their site.

The scholarship has not been posted yet but there's one to look at.

Additional external scholarships for ACF however, you need to be a member.

Lastly, and this goes for any students looking at going to college (culinary or otherwise) this summer and fall, scholarships may be available all year around so don't just look for scholarships when you are entering school. Look all year around. For culinary students, there was a recent scholarship competition sponsored by Grey Poupon. I think 1st place received 20k. The deadline was 2/20.

The main thing is that there are opportunities but the student has to stay motivated to complete the application requirements before they enter school and while they are in school.

    Shaggy,

Suggest that you contact the Chicago Public Library's Business Services Division at the Harold Washington Public Library. They are researches and know source material well and their services are free.

Tell them essentially what you stated in your original post and ask them to direct you to a resource that lists available scholarships. It will take some time to sift through and find ones that are a fit, but there are many (thousands) available and some are available to the first person asking (because no one applies).

    Best of luck.
