Post #1 - October 17th, 2009, 9:47 amOpening the Glenview Announcements (part of the Pioneer Press collection of suburban papers), I found a report of an "incomplete" guide to North Suburban pizza. Pizzas had to be nominated by readers, and, so, Burt's is not included (although Pequod is). Some are chains. There were eight judges who evaluated separate sausage and pepperoni pizza without discussing their rankings. From worst to best:
17. Italian Kitchen, Deerfield
16. Lou Malnati's, Lake Forest
15. Viccino's, Libertyville
14. The Silo, Lake BLuff
13. Il Forno, Deerfield
12. Marcello's, Northbrook
11. Washington Gardens, Highwood
10. NY Slices, Highland Park
9. Pequod's, Morton Grove
8. D'Agostino's, Glenview
7. Buffo's, Highwood
6. Gigio's, Evanston
5. Wayne's, Grayslake
4. Barnaby's, Northbrook
3. Pat's Grayslake
2. Kaiser's, Gurnee
and, drum roll,
1. Pinocchio's, Glenview

Post #2 - October 17th, 2009, 10:49 amWow. Ok, lists are lists but the fact that Pizano's in Glenview was completely left off the list is a real head-scratcher to me.

Yeah, I realize that. I should have been more clear and wrote that I was surprised it wasn't mentioned by a single reader.
The list is a decent reference but the fact is, as long as there's Dominos, pizza boy will be ok.

Post #5 - October 18th, 2009, 3:26 amIn my experience (and that’s a little over 44 years) I wouldn’t trust the “Pioneer Press” even if they said the sky was blue, without going outside and looking up.The most dangerous food to eat is wedding cake.

I'd have to agree after seeing that Pinnochio's finished 1st. Their pizza is average at best.

I agree. Plus, I got a weird vibe after being in there, like I wasn't hip enough. Okay, maybe that's true, but still.

True, but there was a definite attitude coming from the huge population of 20-something whippersnaps.
I was so mad that I read about the Wagner Farm thing a day late! I would have loved that!
