As part of Thanksgiving my family and I make a list of things to be thankful for. This year I added a list of a dozen things that is focused on Chicago culinary treasures. Many more could be added:
1) Alinea, America's best restaurant
2) 14 local varieties of pizza
3) Baconfest
4) A global bakery tour (birthday cakes from Bonbom; paczki from Delightful; apple fritters at Old Fashioned; baba at Natalina; macarons at Vanille)
5) Peach Ice at Mario's and Peach Ice Cream at Homer's on Labor Day
6) Schwa is still open
7) Roast Duck at Sun Wah (Christmas wish list: a troop of Kelly's to serve those ducks)
8 ) A goat-taco-a-thon
9) The lousy real estate market saving Patty's
10) Cathy2's guiding hand on the Culinary History roundtables
11) Ronnie Suburban's photos that make every restaurant appear to deserve a Michelin star
12) The LTH moderators and 7500 of us
Toast, as every breakfaster knows, isn't really about the quality of the bread or how it's sliced or even the toaster. For man cannot live by toast alone. It's all about the butter. -- Adam Gopnik
