From what I've heard, al Jazeera is actually supposed to be pretty trustworthy. I think the B.S. flow likely originates from the source on this one

    track record.

with that said I dont trust alot of mainstream US news sources either.

As for this particular story, I dont believe it, 70 years with no food or water. no way.

The story says that there is a man making this particular claim. It doesn't say that it's a fact. It also puts the words "holy man" in quotes.

I just think the story is nonsense(non newsworthy), take that for what its worth.

    Couldn't agree more.

I was simply left extremely puzzled by the claim that Al Jazeera is or has been publishing things that aren't facts, in a manner that's even worse than The National Enquirer. This is a view that I've simply never heard before (in fact, I only hear the opposite) and there were no facts claimed in this particular story, so I was puzzled.

    Sorry to have bothered you.

And the national enquirer was a poor choice, since they actually have a pretty decent reputation for accuracy when it comes to their big stories (e.g. the john edwards affair, jesse jackson's illegitimate child, the limbaugh pain killer addiction). Should have gone with the weekly world news, although I still hold out hope that Bat Boy is out there..

lol... actually both are about the same to me.

they did get a better picture of that character making the claims though, in the Al jazeera photo he looks like he is on his death bed(not a ringing endorsement of his claims)

I saw this story elsewhere (BoingBoing perhaps) a few days ago. While I don't necessarily think the claim itself is newsworthy, it is fascinating that someone could pull off such an ambitious hoax for so long without being uncovered. I think THAT is newsworthy.

Hey, he no longer goes to the can. I always thought that was a waste of time.

My great aunt lived to her 90s. She may still even be alive, I dunno. I think I'll adopt her diet instead: cigarettes, greasy southern cooking, Hardee's, and cigarettes.

Hardee's. I loved that place when I was a kid. Everyday that roast beef sandwich w/ fake buttered bun, bbq sauce, & a vanilla shake plus the cinnamon sugar-coated apple turnover. Wow! What a fine memory.

If you can find a well-managed store, the Hardee's Thickburger® is well-worth eating once or twice a year.
