I just saw a promo on Fox. They are going to run a "best beef in Chicago" search tonight on the 9:00 News. I will not be able to watch, but I hope someone else does and makes a report. Anyone care to predict? Johnnies? Al's? Somewhere else?

one of the promo's looked like Jay's over on nagle, the other promo looked somewhat like harpo's on grand but I would swear they had a bottle of al & joes giardenera at the counter

I read the op about five minutes before the segment aired. They only tried three places. And only three tasters. The places were Jays, Donald's and Beefee's. Beefee's won.

They had 3 people, chef hans, the guy that used to own roma's on milwaukee and some really big retired jock looking guy go to some beef joints and rate them.

They prefaced it by saying Al's and Mr Beef are considered top shelf but they wanted to try some of the 100's of little stands.

they hit Jay's on irving, found it dry gave it 2-1/2 IIRC.
They went to a place on north ave (was distracted by something) and they rated it low as well.

Then they went to Beefee's on north ave and more or less featured it from then on. They rated it high and liked the fact that they grilled it. They did give Al & Joe's giardenera a nice plug though. I must admit I was surprised at that considering their top pick is the last place I would ever go back to.

How the heck they could have missed Johnny's when they where 1/2 mile away I do not know.

Maybe, but I'm not going back to find out. Foil wrapping is a deal breaker for me.
