    Morning,

If you have 30-minutes to kill this evening, Friday, I will be on (unless I get cut) the Food Network show Meat and Potatoes, 9pm central time. I 'take' the host to Sun Wah BBQ in Chicago then sit down for a meal with host Rahm Fama, and LTHForum members David Hammond, Phil Wingo and Cathy Lambrecht. I will also be on an upcoming Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern, no air date as of yet.

Please keep in mind the camera adds 88-lbs.

    Enjoy,

And there were three cameras on us, so that's like an additional 264 pounds, each.

I believe it's a metaphor for simple, satisfying food.

Hope GWiv (or someone similarly inclined) will record it so I can see how it turned out (I'll be out tonight, and, if all goes as planned, eating a Ghost Pepper stew -- far, I'm thinking, from meat and potatoes).

I never imagined anyone would take my comment negatively, but I was wrong, so let me be clear:

It was really just an innocent question. I haven't seen the Meat and Potatoes show, but the name led me to believe it was about, well, old-fashioned American meat-and-potatoes dining experiences. Like diners. Meat loaf and mashed potatoes. Like I said, I guess I don't understand the show's theme, not having had the chance to see it.

Goodness, I'm not anti Gary, and I'm not anti Sun Wah. Just wondered what kind of topics this show was going to cover. A new show called Meat and Potatoes, I wouldn't have expected that its first visit would be to a Chinese restaurant. I really doubt I'm alone in that.

Don't always jump to the conclusion that someone is being rigid or critical or difficult. If I may say so, the neutral position - assuming the person has no opinion and is asking a reasonable, innocent question - may well be the better starting point. In this instance, it would have been the correct assumption.

    LTH,

Seems the food network cut 95% of my part, oh well. I spent over two hours taping and they didn't even say my name or mention Low & Slow. Guess that's tv for you. The Cheng family did a great job as did Hammond. Still very cool to be on the Food Network.

    Enjoy,

I don't think anyone made the assumptions you're assuming they made. And that's all I have to say about that.

I get the feeling that this show more about Rahm Fama than the places he's visiting. He seems to be a cheap version of Guy Fieri (and that's really cheap) with an even bigger ego. In every place he visited, I got the feeling that it was more about him than the actual place "Look at ME I'm cooking brisket in KC, and now a pig just like I'm Chinese!". While it was nice to see the Chang family get some love, I doubt this show will make it to my regular viewing rotation.

Agree 100%, Kelly was terrific, personable, knowledgeable and she looked great on the show. If one is going to get bumped may as well, and probably will be, by a nice looking woman. :)

That's the second reference to you being bumped by a beautiful Asian woman this week; I advise caution if you see Lucy Liu heading in your direction.

    HI,

I didn't see it. If I was cut entirely, I thank the editor ever so sincerely. I thought this guy was woefully uninformed. Didn't know how a Peking/Beijing duck was made. Made a big to-do not to talk to him because he wanted to keep reality show spontaneous. While it may be unrehearsed, he did have to go back and repeat a few things.

I managed to annoy him with what turned out to be my fact checking function. It sure would not have hurt to bone up on things are made or where a dish fits in a cuisine's hierarchy.

Dinner at Sun Wah was good as always.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

I agree with you, Steve. We had taped it and watched it last night. I wanted to throw something at the host. Or at least give him a thesaurus so he could learn additional words beyond "awesome." That said, the food looked great in HD (at least the first two segments). The Cheng family was charming, especially with the support of GWiv, David Hammond, philw and Cathy2.

I agree with pretty much everything already said.
    Kelly and family-delightful!
    The host....not so much.
All our LTHers... kind of a loss not to let them get in more than a couple of words edgewise.
Great shots of the food at Sun Wah, and nice explanations of how the baby pig is cooked differently than the big pig or the duck. I also learned that there are white molasses...something I never knew.

I'd guess white molasses is a euphemism for maltose syrup which is traditionally used to give Peking Duck its shine and hint of sweet.
