    Is this unique?

Anytime I eat real smoked bbq, I get nausea and really bad belch-related reflux. I realize this isn't an "allergy" - I just don't know what else to call it. I've tried to ignore it, but got it again last night after an otherwise great meal at Brand BBQ.

I've started to get something similar when I eat real garlic, so perhaps I'm just getting old and weak?

This is precisely why God invented Zantac---

On a serious note, I will often get a major league headache a few hours after I eat real deal BBQ.

I've noticed I've gotten nauseous the last few times I've eaten lamb. But since that passes, I figger that's no reason to stop...

Popcorn totally messes with me -- and that really bums me out. i can have a little bit but any large amount and I'm on the DL for at least several hours.

Dairy can also bother me in various forms but I refuse to admit to some sort of lactose intolerance. And gving up cheese...well...i just can't conceive of it.

    So I don't.

Do you get your BBQ sauced or is it just meat?

Always with some amount of sauce.

do people put liquid smoke in sauce?

for reference, the last few places I've been: Jack Stack KC, Brand, Friend's house w/ a smoker.

I think as you get older some foods may bother.........my mom always says " I love garlic but it doesn't love me. "

Perhaps try something such as Digest Assure.

I've been taking these especially when I know I will be going out to dinner and eating more food or a mix of various foods and it seems to help.

Is the BBQ fattier than the normal food you eat? Maybe it's a digestive reaction to the fat?

    Hi,

Totally independent of this discussion, a friend just mentioned they are cutting back on eating BBQ. I thought they were going to complain of cholesterol. Nope. They claim they get a dry throat after eating BBQ. Does anyone experience this?

Isn't that just a function of how salty BBQ is? I certainly get it if I'm not drinking enough water, for any salty food.

I get dry throat, a bad headache and nausea after drinking lots of vodka. I hope that I'm not allergic to it.

My husband always blames this on "bad ice."

My brother-in-law claims to get sick whenever he eats garlic or onions, so I am not allowed to use those in cooking for him. I figure, why does he bother eating when he can't eat anything worth eating?

What reactions have you had when eating BBQ and different meats that are not cooked over wood or charcoal? If fine or no problems I would have to guess it has something to do with the smoking process. Now for the Garlic I am not sure about that. Maybe just limit the amount of smoked meats and Garlic you eat and see what happens?

It could possibly be the smoke, but there are two other possibilities that I think are more likely: fatty cuts of meat and rubs with a lot of salt. Does the same thing happen if you eat ribs from a place that does boil and broil? Do you have any reaction to things like braised short ribs?

Try Beano with the popcorn and Lactaid for the dairy and see if it helps.

How sad! My old gut has no problem wolfing down as much que as I'll send its way. Now the sides are another story. Beans and cabbage (slaw) often create colonic upset that lasts 12 hours or so. Beer doesn't exactly promote good digestion either, especially macro crap like Bud.

Just to be blunt, from a guy who is Asian and LI, there's no sidestepping LI. "some sort"....? "various forms"?

LI is eating a milk product and your intestines do this:

    creates gas...meaning flatulence.

    creates diarrhea

it can be for for a short time or for hours

If you are having anything else happen when eating milk stuff and it's not the above the probs it's something else besides LI

There's a test you can have done that measures your breath to tell you if it's LI.
