Um, that wasn't Chris Rock. That's Michael Benjamin Washington, a Broadway actor. 30 Rock has probably the best comedy writing of any network series of the last thirty years.

Off topic: but nooooo. Community, Arrested Development, seasons 3-8 Simpsons, to start, all have/had better teams (personally).

More on topic: the chicken fingers episode from season 1 -- "Contemporary American Poultry" -- is worth seeing.

How in the world do you get Chris Rock from that?

oh, sorry. i should have checked the credits. i don't think i've ever seen chris rock except for a second here or there. and this guest star looked familiar, so i made a wrong guess. lots of famous people have been guest starring on 30 rock. no insult intended to M.B. Washington, who was hilarious. jj

Not that Chris Rock hasn’t made me laugh hard re: food.

Just to specify--Contemporary American Poultry is an episode of Community (and is very worth seeing).

I'm of the opinion that Arrested Development fills the 'best comedy writing' slot, and there's no shortage of food-related quotes from either AD or 30 Rock (Liz would be right at home on LTH with her office art).

One of my favorite AD food quotes, you can view it queued up on Hulu here:
Lindsay: We’re twins. You didn’t give me access to the banking.
Michael: No, you’d just, you’d go out and you’d just whore it up, Lindsay, you know? Now she’s different. She’s a little bit more like me. It’s like we finish each other’s...
    Lindsay: Sandwiches?
Michael: Sentences. Why would I say...?
    Lindsay: Sandwiches?
Michael: That time I was going to say sandwiches.

Food plays a consistent role in AD, I would venture to say because it is a sitcom about family, and food plays such a vital role in so many families. This list won't mean anything if you haven't seen the show, but if you haven't seen the show....what is wrong with you!? There is George's love in prison for Ice Cream Sandwiches, Michael taking Kitty to a steakhouse to rehire her (it does not go well.), G.O.Bs attempts to swallow the key in Key Decisions, G.O.B and Tobias' coffeeshop business proposal from GOBIAS Industries ("as in, Go Buy Us some coffee"), the family restaurant Tobias works in in Reno, Swallows, which becomes less family-friendly at night, Lucille's distaste of curly fries and pool food, the Klimpys debacle, Lucille and Lindsay trading insults over bananas flambe, Skip's Scramble-a brunch dish that has everything from the menu on it, G.O.B stealing Michael's sandwiches, G.O.Bs sultry reading of the menu to Lucille2, a dead dove in the freezer, Ice the private detective/caterer, and the ongoing question of whether family or breakfast is the most important thing. Oh, and also the American Restaurant in Wee Britain named Fat Ammy's.
    Image

And that's just off the top of my head. Of course, the frozen banana stand (Hulu link) the Bluth Family owns and George Sr.'s infamous Cornballs are probably the most prevalent food themes throughout. Soy loco por los Cornballs!

"There's always money in the banana stand!"
    ========

And let's not forget Liz's re-appearing guest character - that perfect sub sandwich.

At the very end of one of the latest episodes, Liz grabs a beer and says, "Hey guys, you wanna see me shotgun this thing?" The camera fades to black, and a voice is heard, "Oh God, she was talking about the PIZZA!...Is she unhinging her... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

"My system is not used to curly fries."

    @ Klimpy's
Lucille: I'll have the Ike and Tina tuna.
    Waitress: Plate or platter?
Lucille: I don't understand the question and I won't respond to it.

The Arrested Development food quote that gets the most play in my family (and which calls to mind this recent LTH thread):

Carl Weathers: "Whoa, whoa, whoa. There’s still plenty of meat on that bone. Now you take this home, throw it in a pot, add some broth, a potato. Baby, you’ve got a stew going."

Good call, can't believe I forgot this one. A very good one. Another oversight of mine is Lindsay's hot ham water (with just a smack of ham).

It's not uncommon for me and my friends to spend 20-30 minutes just reciting Arrested Development quotes. 30 Rock is my favorite comedy on TV right now, but AD is still my all time fave.

A great line from the first episode that is referenced in the last episode

    Season 1 Episode 1
Michael: What comes before anything? What have we always said is the most important thing?
    George Michael: Breakfast.
    Michael: Family.
George Michael: Family, right. I thought you meant of the things you eat.

    Season 3 Episode 13
Michael: What have I always said is the most important thing?
    George Michael: Family.
Michael: I was gonna say breakfast, but . . . Why don't we go over to Gange's, have a little of both.

My favorite AD line happens when George Sr. is hiding in the attic and Michael is bringing him food but it's obviously irritating Michael.

George Sr.: Pop-pop gets a treat?
Michael: No, Pop-pop does not get a treat. I just bought you a fu&%ing pizza!!
