Can America’s truffle industry take root? from Marketwatch today. There seems to be serious interest in growing truffles in the United States.

I certainly hope farmed truffles make a comeback. From what I have heard much of the knowledge was lost in the early 20th century.
Until recently wasabi was considered difficult if not impossible to cultivate in North America but now I find fresh wasabi root regularly. I really hope this is a sign of good things to come.

You know, I have the time and about an acre of land I could devote to this. I wonder if truffles could be grown in N. IL.? According to the article it costs $100,000 to start a 5 acre truffle farm. I think it can be done for way less. I need to do some research and think about my "connections"! By the way, I've never tasted a truffle. :?
