I'm a little late in posting this, but back in April, the
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam launched a new website that documents pre-industrial utensils and tools (a lot food-related) found in paintings and prints in their collection. The site is called
ALMA (Afbeelding Linkt met Artefact). For example, it breaks down Pieter Aertsen's
De pannekoeckebackerij [Pancake Bakery] (1560) by different utensils contained therein and links to historical/archaeological information for each artifact.

There are also essays, like this one on the
history of the [primarily Netherlandish] frying pan.
Oh, and in case anyone who doesn't read Dutch stumbles on the Dutch language version of the site, you can switch to the English version via a link in the upper right corner of the page. I have the Dutch skills of a 4th grader, so I was thrilled to discover the English site...only three months after starting to read it.
