    Hi,

I will tell you right now: I hate these competitions where you gather votes by pinning your social network against someone else's. It is flat out a popularity contest with the best not necessarily winning.

I am also one who fights for the underdog or where I think someone deserved a better outcome than what may happen.

MHays dreamed up a pie for submission to Saveur: Cranberry Clementine Cloud Pie. As we know, Michelle is a serious competitor and went to some pains to be unique.

I voted earlier in the month for her recipe, which you can only vote once, having heard about it on facebook. I thought it was long over, until I saw today was the last day to vote. The standings are here. Michelle has 99 votes and the highest vote getter is 402 votes.

Since this is a popularity contest rather than merit, which is really a shame. We may as well vote for our friend, at the very least to be supportive.

You do need to register to vote, which I already had. I don't get any e-mails from them I didn't request and nor have I been flooded with mysterious food related e-mails. I am fairly confident your spam won't go up by registering.

The opportunity to vote for Michelle as well as check out her recipe is here.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

    Regards,
    Cathy2

Apparently no registration is required to vote, so why not?

Update it is now at 269 votes. Another 80 will bring her to second place, though 150 will get her to first.

    Hi,

In the last hour, a total of 377 votes to date have jumped Michelle's pie to second place. Easily within shooting distance of first place. Plus a nice voting cushion on top to secure it.

Michelle is now in first place with 418 vote as opposed to 406.

Keep voting, because who knows what burst of voting energy her competitors may have up their sleeve!

When will we get to taste this pie? Holiday party?

I was looking through the rules here and saw this!

A panel of judges consisting of SAVEUR and Saveur.com editors will select the winning entry based equally upon the criteria of originality, relevance, clarity, and taste. There is no prize for the entry with the most reader votes.

I guess that I must say, "Good for them." I dutifully voted for Michelle's pie, which I have never tasted. Selecting it over a set of other pies that I have never tasted. This becomes a pure popularity contest with nothing to do with culinary quality. While I have faith that Michelle's pie is delicious, faith is a tricky matter.

If some pie is to be awarded the best, it would be a nice gesture if someone were actually to taste all of the pies.

    Still, we do love Michelle.

    HI,

Actually I am rather relieved. It means we won't have some sudden death due to a surge of votes from somewhere on the internet. Presently there is a 60-vote void between the first place and Michelle at second place.

I think Michelle has a pretty good chance when it comes to originality and relevance. Clarity is in the eye of the beholder, I assume it is how the recipe is stated. While the recipe reads well, orange and cranberry is a classic combination.

This is not like county and state fair competitions where being an outlier might be risky. Here creativity is encouraged.

Thanks, Charlotte for reading those rules.

Still I encourage people to vote, because you never know what psychological edge our friend's entry may need.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

But it was also nice to see, when I went to vote, that Michele's total was up to 537.

As of 5:14 this evening, Michelle was only behind by five votes; 646 to 651.
