Thanks Tony! Good news, the rest of my vacation days will be on a day by day basis. I won't abandon you for an entire week, well for the rest of this year at least! :)

I'll bet she loved hearing from you. Traffic reporters don't get much, if any, fan mail I'm guessing. You probably made her year.

Traffic reporting on local NPR isn't anything to be proud of, IMO. More often than not, Ms. Ryan is unfamiliar with the city, street names, local landmarks, etc. My impression that she's an out-of-town traffic service. This "reporting" is probably NPR's most embarassing feature in Chicago.

Abby Ryan grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago and still lives here. She's reported Chicago area traffic for about 10 years. So to the extent there are any complaints about her abilities -- it's not because she's sitting in Dubuque or something!

Most embarrassing feature....the woman who does the local announcing over All Things Considered who can't pronounce "public," instead says pullick. You'd think since it's part of their moniker, they'd maybe listen to a bit of tape and get it right.....oh, "prolly" not.
