    From Chicago Journal 7/28/05:

"Last week the city announced plans to move Maxwell Street Market from Canal Street to Desplaines Street. The relocation wouldn't actually happen until 2007. . . . The Desplaines location . . . would stretch just south of Harrison to Roosevelt. . . . According to [Bill] McCaffrey [spokesman for the city's Department of Consumer Services] the move won't change the market's salt-of-the-earth feel. . . . Food vendors, now dispersed throughout the market, may end up grouped in a kind of outdoor food court."
"The fork with two prongs is in use in northern Europe. In England, they’re armed with a steel trident, a fork with three prongs. In France we have a fork with four prongs; it’s the height of civilization." Eugene Briffault (1846)

I don't know much about this except what has been reported. I am suspicious because Daley has never had any love for Maxwell Street, especially for its freewheeling nature, which is at odds with his vision of a "city beautiful" that is, most of all, orderly.

Again from the Chicago Journal 8/4/05:

"A community meeting on the matter is scheduled for Monday, 8/15, 7 to 8:30 pm at the White Palace Grill, 1159 S. Canal. Alderman Madeline Haithcock and representatives from the city are expected to attend."
