Family kicked out of Chinese Buffet

Dershem said she paid her $5.95 fee but was abruptly told to leave after eating one plate of food.

"They just take one bite and throw it away," said cashier Lin Huyen. "They take four egg rolls and crab rangoon, take one bite of egg roll and throw the whole plate. That is wasting food."

Dershem said she was shocked by the scolding and complained to management.

Dragon House manager Kent Cao said his restaurant offers all you can eat buffet, not all you can waste. Dershem's family took food, didn't finish it and then piled on the same food again, he said.

Funny story, and I don't disagree with the restaurant's handling of the situation, assuming their version is correct.

I'm with the buffet owner on this one. Just because yopu pay for all you can eat, that doesn't give you the right to bankrupt the place by makiing them throw food away.

I agree. Deliberately throwing away food when so many people are hungry is gross. It's one thing if you are served more than you can eat but to discard a large percentage of your serving and then go back for more is not nice. People do this all the time with sushi on buffets too. You don't want the rice, get sashimi. You're driving the costs up for everyone else.

I know that a lot of people like to take their kids to buffets to eat because of the variety. I know that lots of kids try things and then they don't like them. What I don't understand is why people(adults and parents of children) don't take a small portion first, to see if they like it, and then if they do return later for more. I'm not sure if it's the fear that something is going to run out but I do see people setting aside large portions at buffet's because they dislike it.

I have to agree that just because you pay the price of the buffet doesn't make it a good excuse for tossing away large portions.
