Alderman Burke proposes ban on saturated fat

I just heard this on the radio ... I'm waiting for the print article to hit the wires. They estimated since foie gras could be banned, there should be no barrier to banning saturated fats.

I only wish I was making this stuff up ... If I were, nobody would believe me.

IIRC Dihydrogen Monoxide causes suffocation in its liquid form, and severe burns in both a gaseous or solid state. Not to mention that it is a primary ingredient in acid rain. Someone email Burke NOW!

All joking aside -- are these people insane? Might as well just burn Chicago down as outlaw pretty much everything served in all restaurants, grocery stores, and hotdog stands. If the restaurant show left because of the foie gras ban, what will we lose with a saturated fat ban? Nobody is going to come to Chicago if there's nothing to eat.

Are there any saturated-fat lobbyists (I have no doubt that there are saturated, fat lobbyists) who could canvass for Daley and fill out ballots for dead people?

I think that line says it all.

That link is actually to the Sun-Times piece -- the article from the Trib puts Burke's comments in a much more useful context.

I'm not defending any of these whackjob ideas, but mention of the ban of saturated fats clearly is taken out of context, a conjectured example, if the Trib's version is accurate.

I just hope that all of the time the Chicago Aldermen spend on deciding what Chicagoans can and cannot eat does not interfere with the time they have to spend on their primary duties of fundraising and ensuring that their cronies get city jobs that they are not qualified to perform. Now that would truly be a shame.
