Tony's post on eGullet is in this thread. On the linked page he mentions being in beirut, on the next page he mentions his stranding.

Thanks, Ramon. Anthony Bourdain is really an amazing writer; that post was more immediate and more moving than anything I've read in the "mainstream" media about the situation in Beirut.

I know some folks who moved to Beirut several years ago to start a restaurant--they were so excited and enthusiastic about the city and it's resurgence. It's just depressing as hell to think what's being lost right now.

For what it's worth, when I tried to post this on Chowhound it was removed almost instantaneously. Not a big surprise, but an unpleasant one. But does he make the trains run on time?

Funny, I also posted a link on Chowhound and it was deleted. I also responded to your post on "Site Talk" and the whole thread was deleted. I like to think that our community of like-minded people *benefits* from having multiple sources and forums, and we can be a part of all of them. But the truth is that some people want to be the only game in town. Any mention of, or link to, this website or to egullet will immediately be met with a deletion.

Well, I'm willing to admit when I'm wrong - it happened once.

The reason the Bourdain post was omitted was because there was already a thread on the media board of Chowhound.

The moderators sent me a little e-mail. Guess lots of people visit LTH.

Although, in retrospect, it seems that it could have been answered in site talk rather than through an e-mail.

I guess someone doesn't like being called Mussolini.

For those of you not addicted to the Travel channel, they are airing a show based on what tape Bourdain and his crew were able to produce in their time in Beirut. It airs on Monday (8/21?) at 10pm eastern/9pm central.

Saw the show last night, which was great. It's really too bad that Beirut and Lebanon have been knocked so far back after rebounding from the civil war. I hope they can do it again.
