I searched for a thread about the proposed ban on trans fats but didn't come up with anything. There's an interesting piece in today's NYTimes online about the proposed ban--along with all of the other meddling the City Council is doing.

    Here's a link. Registration required.

This Sun-Times article says the ordinance has been amended so it won't apply to mom-and-pops, but would still affect large chains.

I hope McDonald's goes back to frying in beef tallow.

Speaking of Alderman Burke, he was featured prominently in a lead half-hour segment on the Today show talking about the proposed trans fats ban and how he was really doing it for the kids. The theme of the segment was about how Chicago seems to be all about rules lately, what with the smoking ban (in restaurants and on beaches), the no driving on cell phones ban, the foie gras ban and now the proposed trans fats ban. John Kass was also featured, complaining about how the city wants us to consume only lentils and tap water.
