All brands from the renowned Quebec specialty brewer, Unibroue, will be featured in a tasting on Thursday, 21 December from 5:30–8:30 P.M. at Warehouse Liquors (634 S Wabash Ave, phone: 312.663.1850). A representative of Unibroue will be present to answer your questions and to pour complimentary samples of Unibroue's beers including warm Quelque Chose, a distinctive cherry ale, to celebrate the winter solstice. Santé!

I was at Hopleaf last week, and queried the counterman, who had little say about $5/pour warm Quelque Chose (actually, I got this:  ). If you know this beverage, please say more.

    Hi David,
It has been a couple years since I last had the Quelque Chose at the Hopleaf. I do remember ordering it because hot cherry beer sounded intriguing. The bottle at the Hopleaf is quite big and I do recall that the first glass was interesting, the next couple were a bit hard to swallow. The beer is tart with a slight sweetness. But for me, when I think of warm alcoholic beverages, I think of spiked cider, mulled wine, or my favorite: glogg. All those beverages are sweet and Quelque Chose does not carry that same sweetness by any means. But if you're fully aware of that, Quelque Chose (or something, en francais) might be a good drink to have when it gets colder around here

Quelque Chose ("Something Else") is our special cherry ale which is brewed to deliver the perfect balance of sweetness and tartness. Prior to the new vintage, it was available in a 500 mL French champagne bottle. In July, we brewed it for the U.S. market for the first time since 2002 and it is now available exclusively in a cork-and-cage finished 750 mL brasseur bottle. Given how well the 2002 vintage has aged, we project the new vintage will have a shelf life of up to 15 years with proper storage. Over time, the sweetness will diminish slightly but the rich, robust cherry flavor and accents of cinnamon, clove and honey make this a memorable beer for the holidays, especially when served warm or hot in a mug.

TimeOut Chicago recently reviewed Quelque Chose, which will be featured in this evening's tasting at Warehouse Liquors. I hope to see you there!
