No, your mind isn't going. This was briefly an invitation to African Harambee but it is now an invitation to Ethiopian Diamond instead, still on Thursday, September 6th at 7 pm.

The rationale is that we may as well introduce some more people to a GNR nominee while there is still time to contribute to the discussion.

Please post here or PM me to RSVP. If our group is large, I'll want to give them advance notice, or possibly even plan the menu in advance.

I'll gladly plan a follow-up trip to AH soon; I'd do it in the next week, but am open to feedback on whether or not that would contribute to LTH fatigue.

Sure Joe, not only are you planning two African dinners simultaneously, but you have to do it on the same date that I am scheduled an East African dinner :!:

I would like to come, but I have other plans that night. Of course I have no one to blame but myself for scheduling a non-GNR dinner in the middle of GNRs, and I promise it won't happen again.

Looking forward to a full report.

Even with it not being AH, I'm still in.

    A strong maybe from me.

I noticed yesterday an Abyssinian restaurant next to Ras Dashen --

Looks like two "ins" (including one via PM) and a "maybe"?

That doesn't sound like it needs much advance planning. But it also doesn't sound like we'll get to taste enough different things -- c'mon, who's in?

I'm going to try to come with the (2) kids, who knows if they'll eat anything and we may well visit Burger King on the way home, but we're going to try. Possibly it's best to regard us as a separate table but happy to trade a few dishes...

Dave, the more the merrier; I've shown up totally unannounced at Ethiopian Diamond with a dozen people more than once, and they always seem to be able to accommodate.

With larger groups we sometimes order the same platter in multiples, to simplify ordering and make things a little easier on the kitchen, but I'm hoping tonight we can really taste a lot of things. The biggest problem with that is that the platters are a little big to pass around, but we can either play musical chairs, or pass them anyway.

I'm counting 7-8 adults plus two kids. There's still room! But even if it's just us, this is a good number for sampling.

That was such a pleasant evening. Gave some depth to my limited understanding of Ethiopian food and the culture -- must return for the coffee, since it was invented in Ethiopia --

and I have a coffee jones -- I'd like to get a good Harrar roasted in Rome as close to St. Peter's as possible -- and blend it with a Chicago-roasted Yucatan bean aged during something cosmic (eclipse, planetary station, solstice transit) in the Caracol, the ancient Mayan celestial observatory at Chichen Itza -- these 2 world spiritual centers elegantly cross somewhere west of here in the middle of a corn field 88w30 & 41n56 -- should make a cup of profound spiritual solace -- on my drawing board it's called "Hooch" in honor of Robert Maynard Hutchins, who was born about 12 hours after Al Capone in Brooklyn.

Germuska -- Tuesday next, 9/11 -- at 7:44 am cdt, there will be an exact solar eclipse -- if this is during your show, play something special for the occasion, please. I find it most curious that this eclipse occurs on the 6th anniversary of 9/11-2001 at the precise time the first jet slammed into the WTC --

I'll listen for it while I'm drinking my draft model of Hooch -- a guatemalan (from metropolis) w/Lavazza --
