Lee, author of The Fortune Cookie Chronicles, a book that explores the origin and evolution of Chinese Food in the United States. She will be joined by poet Patrick Rosal, author of My American Kundiman. Modeling his poems on the kundiman, a song of unrequited love sung by Filipinos for their country in times of oppression, Rosal professes his conflicted feelings for America, while celebrating and lamenting his various heritages. My American Kundiman is the winner of the Association of Asian American Studies 2006 Book Award in Poetry and the 2007 Global Filipino Literary Award.

This program is co-sponsored by The Public Square at the Illinois Humanities Council and the UIC Asian American Resource and Cultural Center.
