    Your family will love exploring traditional Dutch food, unique collectibles and gift items, gourmet food items, and entertainment at this year’s Elim Dutch Festival. Held on the grounds of Elim Christian Services, the annual Dutch Festival promises fun for all ages. The festivities kick off at 7:30 am on September 27, 2008 with a delicious pannekoeke (pancake) breakfast. From 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, explore the authentic Dutch Village shops, sample the sumptuous Dutch pastries, or sit and enjoy the non-stop entertainment.

    Dutch festival offers something for everyone. Children will enjoy the petting zoo, magic show, Kid’s carnival, and different entertainment throughout the day. A sharp eye may also catch a glimpse of Sinterklaas (Dutch Santa Claus). Adults will love the fresh flowers, Christmas collectibles, delft, crafts, unique Dutch groceries, baked goods, Farmer’s Market, and Wooden Shoe Carver. Everyone will enjoy Dutch treats such as oliebollen (Dutch doughnuts), poffertjes (little treats), rodekool (red cabbage), pea soup, pigs-in-a-blanket, banquet and hutspot. For more conventional appetites, pizza by the slice, bratwurst, hot dogs, baked potatoes, pie slices, brownie sundaes, caramel apple delights, Taco-in-a-bag, popcorn, coffee and soft drinks are all available at reasonable prices.

    Free parking with shuttle bus service is provided. All proceeds benefit Elim Christian Services. Elim’s mission is to equip children and adults with disabilities to achieve to their highest God-given potential. Elim pursues this mission by providing educational, vocational, therapeutic, and residential services to over 800 persons with developmental disabilities.

    Most experts agree that oliebollen were the precursors to American doughnuts.

    I can see that you have to have hot dogs at a summer festival. But taco in a bag? (What is it, anyway?)
