Some of us LTHers are planning to be at the Backyard Barbeque store in Wilmette Saturday at 11 am for a BBQ demo. Then, if there' s not enough food there, we may head over to Gilson's, a couple of blocks away, for sustenance. All are welcome to join.

Oh, yeah, there's supposed to be some big guy dressed in black there, messily slinging copies of some book that he'll likely stain with barbeque sauce.

GWiv - walkin' the line of low and slow...

My better half is at work, and my Saturday kinda depends on his post-work state of being, so I (we) may show up unexpectedly...

I had occasion to go to the Backyard BBQ Store yesterday. Despite the fact that they sell a lot of gas powered grills, they also have an impressive collection of charcoal burners, featuring pretty much the entire Weber line from Smoky Joe to Ranch Kettle (including all of the new models of kettles and WSMs). They also carry Big Green Eggs. I'd say this would be a great place to see G Wiv in action and to explore the full gamut of smokers and accessories that are available. I wish I was going to be able to attend.

    Tom,

There will be food, Buttermilk brined chicken wings, mini pulled pork sandwiches and Lexington Red Slaw.

Colleen and I are doing demos, she is doing slaw, me sauce, and I will be smoking wings until they run out. The signing/demo is not intended as lunch, but standard LTHForum rules are in play. (Nothing says Excess like Excess)

Very happy you and a few other LTHers are coming to the signing, always nice to see a friendly face.

    Enjoy,
    Gary

Nice to see everyone and have a chance to chat and catch up (gastro gnome, nr706, the suburbans, moetchandon, and doubtless there were others who I am stupidly forgetting to mention.) GWiv and crrush gave a very nice presentation and rustled up some excellent grub; we chowed down on buttermilk wings with Gary's rub and pulled pork sandwiches with red coleslaw that won the Sparky seal of approval.

Best free lunch that a book can buy! (OK, nobody had to buy the book - but I got a double-signed copy to give as a present - because why wouldn't you!) I will definitely be looking over today's recipes!

Lots of fun on Saturday with some sage instruction, great conversation (with fellow LTHers and others) and delicious food . . .

Of course, there was lots of food -- so much of it, that we canceled our lunch plans and feasted on buttermilk-brined wings . . .

It was a really fun event and I have to say the store was great, too. I ended up buying myself a nice new toy (for Fathers Day).

Congrats again, to Gary and Colleen, on a wonderful book and a job well-done at Saturday's event. You guys are the hardest-working duo in BBQ.

I want to add my congrats to Team Rush and Wiviott. It was a fun afternoon, the food was great, company was great, and you have to love a barbeque store that has a liquor license and serves beer to its customers.
