Performa is a three-week performance-art festival opening in New York City next week. There are a number of notable food events happening as part of the festival.

Instead of an opening dinner, the festival begins with a series of food happenings, including apples from chopped down trees as dessert by Jennifer Rubell. Information about tickets for the opening can be found here.

Two other food installation-performances I noted on the Performa calendar:

Pasta Sauna (Proef) by Marije Vogelzang:
    Performa Hub
    41 Cooper Square
Wednesday, November 4 - Friday, November 6, times vary

According to Marinetti, pasta was the worst food to eat, because it made humans slow, dull, and fat–so in this installation, the steam created from boiling pasta will form a sauna, giving audience members the chance to be as lazy and un-energetic as they want.

Curated by Esa Nickle. Commissioned by Performa. Supported by The Mondriaan Foundation.

    11/06 from Noon – 3 PM

    FREE LUNCH

Snöfrid Ruby Distillery by Ylva Ogland:
    Swiss Institute
    495 Broadway # 3
Tuesday, November 3 - Sunday, November 8, times vary

“The Ruby is for the core of Lust…for the connection to the uncontrolled controlled”. Ylva Ogland (b. Umeå, Sweden 1974) and her Mirror Twin Snöfrid (b.
