Chocolate is more than a luscious confection. It made the Mayans rich and the Aztecs powerful. Christopher Columbus took some cacao pods home to Spain, but died before finding out what they were. Spain may have conquered the New World in those years, but chocolate went on to conquer all of Europe. In this talk, Deb Duchon will touch on chocolate in those early years and its impact on society, medicine, gender roles, religion, and politics.

The lecture will be followed by a tasting of chocolates from around the world.

    RSVP by February 22.
