Another fall benefit that showed up in my inbox:
Evanston Harvest Celebration
Oct. 21, 2010 6:30 PM until 9:30 PM
Third Annual Evanston Harvest Celebration to benefit The Evanston Farmers’ Market and Evanston Township High School’s Edible Acre Project
Once again, top local chefs will partner with prominent Midwest sustainable growers to celebrate the bounty of the autumn harvest at Now We’re Cookin’, the North Shore’s premier culinary center. The public is invited to taste the chefs’ creations at this annual celebration, which this year will benefit the Evanston Farmers’ Market (named Top Local Market by Chicago Magazine 2010! Best of Chicago) and the Evanston Township High School student garden (ETHS Edible Acre Project).
The intimacy of the Evanston celebration gives guests ample opportunity to spend quality time with participating chefs and producers - while savoring their delicious creations! This year’s event will be even more exciting as ETHS students join in. But the real star of the evening is the food – produced locally (the High School garden is 3 minutes from Now We’re Cookin’!), prepared with skill – truly a meal to be savored.
“We are thrilled to help facilitate the growing trend of connecting farm to table,” says Now We’re Cookin’ Culinary Director Mary McMahon. “It is exciting to see the now-annual Harvest Celebration reinforce the great relationships between local farmers, local chefs and Evanston Farmers’ Market patrons.”
Guests will rotate among tasting stations, where the chefs will prepare and provide samples of dishes utilizing the autumn product of their partner. All are welcome to join the culinary duos for a relaxing evening of great food accompanied by wines provided by Schaefer’s Wines.
Participating chefs are market customers and enthusiastic supporters of the “eat local” philosophy. Cooking this year are chefs from
Antiprima
Bistro Bordeaux
Quince
Stained Glass
Chef’s Station
Fraiche
Pensiero Ristorante
Now We’re Cookin’
Sweet Attila’s (an on-line bakeshop and market participant).
All the producers are from the Evanston Farmers’ Market – one of the largest and oldest in Illinois. This year’s participating farms include Green Acres, M&D, 1st Orchards, Gast Farm, River Valley Mushrooms, and Nichols Farm, among others.
“This evening is a rare opportunity to interact directly with these great local entrepreneurs. The superior quality of the local products, enhanced by the talents of terrific local chefs, results in a meal – and a evening – to remember!” says Now We’re Cookin’ Owner/Chef Nell Funk.
