In support of the nomination of Ream's Elburn Market for GNR, I am proposing a "sausage grab" on Saturday, 2/26/2011 @ 11:00 a.m.

A great opportunity for folks who have never made the short trip out to Ream's, havent been in a while, or just need to stock up on their favorites. It would be nice for a group of LTH folks to come out & buy some items & then have some time before the GNR comments period ends to post their feedback. I guess some of their sausages are avaialable @Fumare @ the French Market in the Chicago, but its more fun & there is more selection going to the source imho.

After the sausage grab a quick run south on Route 47 to The Bristol Tap for lunch would be alot of fun for anyone interested. Bristol tap has one of the best burgers in Chicagoland served at a laid back bar(no children allowed).

For logistics I think it best to keep the group to 12 people. Reply on the thread if genuinely interested in attending.

What: Ream's Elburn Market Sausage Grab
    When: Saturday 2/26/2011 @ 12:00 p.m.
Where: Meet @ Ream's Market then go for lunch @ The Bristol Tap in Bristol

    - Ream's accepts credit cards, I doubt I have to suggest this but bring a cooler.
    - Bristol Tap is for those over 21 only, and is cash only.

    11:00 a.m.
    Ream's Elburn Market
    128 Main Street
    Elburn, IL.

    TBD
    The Bristol Tap
    16 S. Cannonball Trail
    Bristol, IL.

    Attendees: (5)

Nice thread title! I'm still not sure what's happening that day but will try to make it if space and schedule permit!

    Jim-

Sadly, our calendar is already booked on the 26th. I'll have to schedule a time to visit my mother in Naperville which is about as close as I get to Ream's.

BTW, I'm heartened by your support of the Bristol Tap. You were originally put off by the no kids, but I'm glad you found your way to their fine burgers. I'm also glad you can look above their Cubs-themed Christmas tree. ;-)

lol. the cubs x-mas tree was tough to get past...

the no kids, I am just so rarely out without Shay it made it tough to get in there. But it was well worth it when I finally did.

Ok, I'm not new to the board, but this will be my first event. I'm already familiar with Ream's as it's not too far from me in Oswego. So sign me up for 2 for my inaugural event. And the Bristol Tap has been my go-to spot for pre-poker game burger and a beer for quite some time. Looking forward to it.

I am still ticked that I can't make this next week. I think I will make my own sausage and burger grab today. I highly encourage anyone just thinking about doing this with Jim next week to get off the fence and go. Jim is a great guy and host, Ream's is really something special, and I'll put in my review for the burgers at the Bristol...but I think it will be a great one!

For anyone still sitting on the fence let me tempt you over! I went to Ream's last weekend and stocked up on some favorites. They had two kinds of veal brats (very delicate)...a must try. I also got some award winning summer sausage sticks and I always treat myself to the bufalow landjaegar sticks. If you like ham salad, wow...they have a great ham salad. I also got a
coupon for a lb of free "toasties" (hot dogs) for a future visit. I love Ream's.

Then I took myself off to the Bristol Tap. I did something I NEVER do, and parked myself at the bar. It was noon on a Saturday, and the place just had a nice vibe to it. I did not feel uncomfortable at all doing this, and ended up having a great conversation with a guy who grew up about 5 miles of where I now live. It is a small world. Anyway, let's discuss the burgers at the Bristol Tap. This probably was the BEST hamburger I have ever had. I watched the cooking process, as the flat top was located right behind the bar. The cook went to the refrigerator, took about a huge hamburger patty (at least 2 inches high) and put it on the flat top. He had a system where he would move the burger from right to left as the burger cooked. The process took about 20 minutes, and I think the burger was judged cooked by it's size. I was never asked how I wanted the burger, but for me, this burger was cooked perfectly - medium rare. Man, I can't tell you how great it was to bite into this burger hot off the grill. It had a nice bun too! I can't wait for the reviews for the people trying it out next Saturday! Have fun!

Im glad you enjoyed your day at the 2 planned stops for the 26th.

I cant wait to get more of those veal brats, debreziners, etc.

As for Bristol Tap, Anyplace that has a flattop grill right behind the bar has to be good imho.

They dont ask how you want the burger as you mention, pasted on the fridge is a bumper sticker that says something like: "this isnt blankin' BurgerKing, you get the burger how we make it." 8)

Great to meet Jim and Jeff. Had a great time, picked up some great products at Ream's. Having a wonderful Sunday dinner of braised short ribs with mashed potatoes and some grilled veggies. Short ribs are from Ream's. Burger at the Bristol Tap was fantastic as usual. Great lunch and good company. Jim and Jeff, where did you guys end up for the evening??

Fado for a drink, tried to go to Frontera(packed), ended up going to Girl & Goat for a drink, and the Maude's Liquor Bar for dinner, Maude's was quite good.
