Jan Thompson will speak on November 16 on the American POW experience in the Asia Theater during World War II for Culinary Historians.

Woven into this narrative, there is quite a bit of food. While these prisoners were on a minimal amount of food, they supplemented their diet with whatever they could scrounge. This included undigested grain from horse manure, which certainly underlined their desperation for food wherever they could obtain it.

Malnurished, some prisoner's thoughts were consumed by food. They recreated in their imaginations feasts, which they memorialized on scrapes of paper. They would do their best to recall recipes and how they were made.

Jan Thompson has worked on this project for over 20 years. Her father was POW on a ghost ship during World War II.

Is Jan going to be at the Siskel screenings? Will there be any question and answer time?
Man : I can't understand how a poet like you can eat that stuff.
    T. S. Eliot: Ah, but you're not a poet.

I know Jan will be at both screenings. I will check to affirm whether or not she is doing a Q & A.
