“As a physician, I believe in the centuries old wisdom of Hippocrates: ‘Let thy medicine be thy food, and thy food be thy medicine.’ However, as a chef I know that if food does not taste good then it is only medicine.”--Michael Fenster, MD
Join us as Dr. Michael Fenster pays a house call on the Culinary Historians and gives us the real skinny on dieting. He will cover the evolution of our tastes and weaknesses as described in his latest book: “The Fallacy of The Calorie: Why the Modern Western Diet is Killing Us and How to Stop It.”
Dr. Mike will discuss the history of some specific diets regarded (rightly or wrongly) as healthful today: Mediterranean, low carb, Paleo, Okinawan and the China diet; and how we can apply those lessons to eat healthfully and deliciously.
BIOGRAPHY: Michael Fenster entered the professional kitchen in college, working his way up from dishwasher to executive chef while in school. He later earned his culinary degree from Ashworth University. He has managed an award winning restaurant and hosted the local cable TV cooking show, “What’s Cookin’ with Doc.‟ He recently signed with The Health and Wellness Channel to host his own national cooking program, “Just What the Doctor Ordered.” His earlier book, “Eating Well, Living Better: The Grassroots Gourmet Guide to Good Health and Great Food‟ was published in 2012. Dr. Mike is currently taping episodes for a new television show called “Just What the Doctor Ordered,” to air in nationally on The Health and Wellness Channel.
