    “Beer Chicago: The Refreshing History”
Chicago was built by immigrants seeking new opportunities, and one of the notable crafts brought with them was beer brewing. German-Americans established Chicago’s first brewery in 1833, and the Town of Chicago became official at a tavern that year after a gathering and vote of 12-1. Beer has been a component of Chicago’s colorful fabric ever since, continuing today with the emergence of the home brewing trend and a vibrant craft beer industry. “Beer Chicago” provides a unique and engaging historical look at beer culture, taverns, and breweries and the city’s seemingly unquenchable thirst for beer. Learn about different beers brewed in the Chicago area, explore the science of beer making at a hands-on activity station, and view a feature on Elmhurst’s own beer brewing and tavern history.

We grew up in Elmhurst and the first date I went on with Carolyn was to the First Amendment (long gone) on York. I will have to check out this show (incidentally, I wrote the script for the Elmhurst history video that plays in the museum's permanent exhibit).
