When CHC President Scott Warner attends the Annual International Association of Culinary Professionals Annual Conference, he likes to say he is going on a “shopping trip” for speakers. (FYI, our speakers receive no remuneration, just a million dollars worth of TLC.) Earlier this year, the conference was held in Hollywood, and Scott hopped on board an IACP tour of Tinseltown’s famous eateries, conducted by culinary luminary George Geary. Scott was blown away by chef Geary’s exuberant show-and-tell encompassing the golden age of Hollywood. Tourgoers visited such sites as The Brown Derby, Chasen’s, Romanoff’s, and Ciro’s where they heard about iconic dishes and drinks like the Cobb Salad, and the Moscow Mule, and they were told about the soda fountain where Harold Arlen wrote “Over the Rainbow” for the Wizard of Oz. Scott knows a star when he sees one, so he asked Chef Geary to share his story on his next visit to Chicago. Come join us as chef Geary explores the Golden Age of Hollywood through its famous eateries. He will also spill the beans on the stars and chefs, and give us some side dishes on everything from the Beatles to Nixon to Robert Kennedy and the Manson Murders. Chef Geary will also speak on the past, present and future of the business. And, he will sign copies of his latest book, L.A.’s Legendary Restaurants, featuring over 100 celebrity-favorite recipes. Profits from the book sales will be used to fund the Culinary Historians of Chicago.

Biography: George Geary is an award-winning chef, best-selling author, and renowned educator. A former pastry chef for the Walt Disney Company, chef Geary has worked in many food related fields in Hollywood, from Paramount Studios to creating the famous cheesecakes on the Emmy award winning show, “The Golden Girls.” Currently, George is the featured chef on San Diego Living Show, touring the country teaching and lecturing. George was awarded the Culinary Educator of the Year Award in 2014, and in 2012, a Frommers Award for Culinary Tour Operator of the year. He conducts yearly tours to France and major cities of America.

Cost of the lecture program is $5, $3 for students and no charge for CHC members and Kendall students and faculty.
