I'm taking my dress back. Either roasted vegetables or some other type of vegetarian sandwich or gluten-free chocolate chip cookies, or something else completely different from the aforementioned.

SueF's afternoon commitment faded away, so I think we're back in business for live dutch oven cooking. I'll be setting up a coal bed (using old metal shelving and bricks), and Sue will probably make a savory main, a cake of some kind, and probably I'll contribute a curried squash dish.

Sorry it took me so long to post update. Attending will be myself, daughter Boo!, and friend Lolo. For some reason, I'm bringing Greek potatoes. Pinata purchased. Is 5lb of assorted Mexican candy enough? Trying to remember where the rope and bat I made are.

    Can't wait!

Yay! I rely on your best judgement on the candy.

It will nice to see Boo! formerly known as Ramonita!

A gentle reminder: Pinata playing kids are expected to have their parents present to play!

Picnic Permit Rules and Regulations wrote:
    3. The Forest Preserve District is closed to all visitors after SUNSET. Night picnics are not permitted. Glass beverage containers are not permitted on the Forest Preserve District property.

    5. The sale of alcoholic beverages in any form is prohibited.
    6. Before leaving, you must extinguish all fires; collect all your paper debris, bottles and trash and deposit them in the appropriate containers.

    10. All ordinances and regulations in effect of the Forest Preserve District must be observed and the instructions of its representatives obeyed. Please note that the consumption of alcohol upon or within 50 feet of any roadway, parking area or entranceway is prohibit. No admission fees or charges may be levied.

Last week a friend had a permitted picnic at another grove. A forest preserve officer came to inspect her permit. He also checked each cooler looking for glass beverage containers by digging around with his hands.

Any violator will receive a ticket with a mandatory court appearance as well as the person whose name is on the permit.

A reminder to please keep within the forest preserve's rules and regulations.

    Thanks!

I was wondering if there will be enough table space for everybody? I will be bringing six 9" tins of bite-size pie, with a food net over each one.

pie lady: space if very cramped . you might plan to just put out 1 tin at a time. when it empties, put out another one. vertical stacking is another option. there's never enough room for the food- but that's a great problem to have- food as far as the eye can see...

Each tin will have a different pie. Perhaps we'll set up our cooler instead. We'll see...

Cathy -- I mentioned above that I would bring two things... the pan bagnat and a vegetable dish... For purely logistical reasons the former will not be realised and instead I plan to make a dish which shares something of the flavour profile of the renowned Niçoise sandwiches but sports an even better sounding name:
    puparuol' 'mbuttunat'

My 'vegetable something' needs to be updated: depending on the availablity of one of the key ingredients at the farmers' market (they should have it), I intend to make a particular favourite of mine belonging under the broad category of 'beans 'n greens':
    çeixai co-o zemin

    Hi,

I called the forest preserve district earlier this week. I was advised there are 10-15 tables at this location.

People and food seem to arrive in waves. As a dish is finished, it is moved away and something else plops down. It is impossible to try everything and sometimes I see something in pictures after the event I missed.

Joan's idea of stacking is a sound one.

People still manage to sit at some tables, almost like perching. Others bring blankets to sit under the trees. Some people bring their own tables and chairs.

Antonius - I will amend the list later to reflect your reconsidered offerings. I am sure it will all be good.

    Regards,
    Cathy2
