I was hesitating -- wavering, even -- fearing the ability of H1 to handle such a rush of humanity... that is, until I saw those glorious words: "BBQ buffet." With G Wiv's expert selection of links and tips, what can go wrong? (Paging crowd control...)

That was exactly what I was waiting to hear. :D Put me down for 1, and many thanks for arranging this (my first visit to Honey 1!)!! Hurrah!

    See you there,

Panther, I've got your back. I spent 4 years in college working Crowd Control at Wrigley and the Cubby Bear.

Working for the Cubs was the best part time gig I ever had, Cubby Bear was a hellhole filled with obonxious drunks and thuggish bouncers who usually deserved to be tossed onto Clark St. more than the patrons.
I used to think the brain was the most important part of the body. Then I realized who was telling me that.

It didn't snow the white stuff, but I got snowed with work and am not going to make it over tonight. I don't want the hassle of driving home that late.

I will plan on making the Beef-a-thon though.

If anyone is taping the show, I would like to see a the clip. Or will it be available online in the near future.

Just wanted to add that last night was a great time and it was nice meeting everyone I did.

I have to say that those ribs were damn near perfection last night!

Also made my way home with a great green salsa last night that was a perfect addition to some reheated slices of smoke/grilled top round with a side of scrambled brown organic eggs (now sold at CostCo) mixed with some heavy cream. Isn't having a half gallon of heavy cream from CostCo in the fridge just asking for trouble?

I just got back from Honey 1 tonight... Yep, Honey 1 two nights in a row. I arrived at 6:30 and the line was almost out the door. The dining area was packed with people waiting for their food. Although we had to wait for an hour for the ribs, it was worth it. The crowd let up a little by the time we left (around 9:45).

According to Robert Jr, they have been busy since 3 pm this afternoon. Actually the phones were ringing after the show aired, but they ran out of meat!

I am so happy that Honey 1 is getting the success that they deserve.

    Jamieson,

Yes, an absolutely grand time, great BBQ, the opportunity to chat with old friends, put faces to names not yet met, eat great BBQ, or did I already say that :), and a guest appearance by Craig "Meathead" Goldwyn, who 'did' Honey 1 on Check Please.

Don't let the warming trays fool you, BBQ was spot-on. H1 took the meat off the smoker moments before we arrived, buffet style service was simply logistical for 40 or so hungry LTHers.

Frankly, I attribute the success of the event, and the mostly positive* review of H1 on Check please, to the fact CrazyC wore her LTHForum Bowling Shirt. :)

Ah, one of our table mates had bacon in a bag on the table. I saw bacon and sat down, figuring whoever it was would be an interesting person to speak with. Near the end of the evening, unprompted, he gave us some, and we felt quite grateful!

It happens sometimes at LTH events, someone comes in with good home made stuff, and a few lucky folks walk off with it (I know that others, at other events, have gone home with canned goods and chili oil and so on). It was just luck to sit at a table where we would end up being gifted.

But I bet that Robert could make some kick-@$$ bacon...

I'm gona be eating pastrami rubens for a month it seems... and what a glorious month it will be!

I met the lady quoted above today. She was attending a food writing and publishing seminar. I didn't recognize her by face, rather I recognized the Russian name with the transliteration-style spelling. The conversation went approximately as follows:

"Oh you're the lady from Check Please!"

"Why yes, I guess it has made me famous!"

"Or perhaps infamous, I have some friends who like Honey 1 who were disappointed by your comments."

"Really? Maybe I came on an off night."

"Maybe you don't like that particular style of ribs."

"I arrived hungry and left hungry, there was nothing edible on those ribs."

Thought you may find this of interest.

    Regards.

One of the attorneys in my office was just elected judge ... so we had a send off lunch for him today in the brief hour they allow him from -- would you believe -- judge school.

Ordered the Honey 1 Party Tray with an extra whole chicken for the 13 of us on the 13th ...

Everyone commented on the high quality of the ribs -- and one or two (the judge included) are serious aficianados of the craft -- I got commended for my good taste

And I must add that I asked Robert that the food be delivered at 11:45 -- right on the button.
