Yes, unless something has changed, that is correct. A couple years back, we were asked by officers patrolling the preserve to take them down. :(

    Hi,

I will need to clarify and get back to you on the tent issue.

When we received the change-permit application, there was a check-off box for permits on tents greater than 10x10. I need to call to clarify this, because it may be those tents/awnings 10x10 or less are ok. If they are, we are ok.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

not to be a noodge but technically an EZ-up is an awning not a true tent. There's no sides.

Good. The day the Forest PReserve police asked us to take it down, I was not in a good position to argue.

    Thanks!

How many will be in your party, Kenji?

I might be able to gather about 8 people up. Folks from our local Reddit group. They'd live nearby. Not sure what to do about inviting them and getting them fed. Not sure many of them like to cook but I could whip up enough to feed them. You guys want "strangers" to eat your food? :)

I'm thinking about creating hot smoked mackerel, then icing some to serve cold. Maybe I grab some bagels up on Touhy and Cicero. I could also make enough Haiga rice too. Maybe do a smoked fish, rice, and some kinda crunch cruciferous veggie. We also learned how to make the refrigerator pickels at DANK Haus, maybe I whip a vat of those up?

We almost all started out as "strangers" at one point--not too many siblings on here that I know of, though there are some spouses and even a few parent/child participants :D Glad you and your friends are going to join us!

As for the pot luck, lots of people bring things that they pick up from places--last year, someone brought pastries from Bad Wolf, another brought Great Seas wings. It's not uncommon at all. Others bring beverages, ice, water, etc. Those are always things the group can use. The idea is just to contribute to the community, not unlike the way we do online. And what you posted to bring sounds terrific! Looking forward to meeting you.

From the FAQ on the Forest Preserves site:

    Can we bring alcohol?

Alcohol is allowed at most picnic groves, but you should check your permit to confirm your picnic grove allows alcohol. All alcohol must be consumed at least 50 feet from any parking lot. No glass is permitted.

The rule is no beverages in glass containers are allowed, not only alcoholic ones. The 50 foot rule still holds.

Worse, it is everyone's screen name and not their real name. You at least 'know' them by stuff you read.It will be nice to put the face to the name.

Your guests will have their first name plus 'guest of kenji.'

It is expected everyone participate from bringing food and supplies to helping tidy up. Nobody is a guest in the sense they sit back and wait to be fed or entertained and leave without lifting a finger.

Your Reddit friends can bring ice or something special they like from a store or bakery. I know justjoan is hoping someone will volunteer to bring ice for her fruit punch.

The glass beverage container rule is the forest preserves, which is spelled out in the first post. If a ticket is given to any participant, then the person's whose name is on the permit is given a ticket, too.

    Cathy2
