Not at all--that's just fine. Mbh hasn't decided on her entry yet so she can make a veg soup if she'd like, though I'd just ask that it not replicate any of those already on the list. And if she's not averse to doing a non-veg option, we have plenty of veg entries now. I just want to make sure we have a variety and since I don't know what the 8th soup will be or even who's doing it, I think 2 vegan/veg options is plenty, based on past preferences of the attendees.

Looking forward to tasting the Lucky Bean soup!!

I have decided on my soup, birria con consome. Looking forward to it!

Can't have too much goat! I could also do lamb birria if you don't want me butting in on the goat real estate.

No way. I love birria. Not nearly as much a fan of beef or lamb versions. Looking forward to it. The soups are so different I don't foresee any goat fatigue. My main concern is the coarse simplicity of mannish water. It's much like other Caribbean starch-fest soups, sancocho and ajiaco. Hope folks like roots with their goat.

Very excited to try everyone's entries. I'm leaning towards something broth based and Asian--especially given that most everyone is bringing things on the heartier side.

    Looking forward to it!

I just think pepperpot is too close to goat water in flavor profile, so I'm switching and doing New England clam chowder. It will include bacon or the like too, so pescatarians be damned!

Damn themes . . . I forgot. But . . . Nantucket Island clam chowder. You ask how that's different from New England-style? It's made on an island. There!

I'm going to re-make an old favorite, red lentil, coconut curry soup, it's vegan.

Who is supplying the bread? I can bring a couple of our delicious seeded sourdough breads from Delightful Pastries, let me know if it is needed.

For the past few years, bread has been provided by Publican Quality Market. But I'm sure they'll appreciate anything you'd like to contribute. Thanks!!

I've looked through the various posts and can't determine the original source of the info but apparently, Butcher & Larder does NOT donate bones to Soup & Bread cooks--someone went in today asking about it and they very emphatically stated that they do not and don't know who would've said it. So bones there are $3.00 a lb. if you are interested. I think there are lots of options posted here and elsewhere if anyone needs them.

I've decided on Takgaejang--a Korean Spicy Chicken Soup--for my entry. It contains 13 ingredients so I guess that's my lame attempt to stay on theme.

Is anyone else planning on bringing rice to accompany their soup--not as familiar with some of the entries and didn't see anyone mention it. Mine calls for it but I don't want to repeat too much so might skip it if someone else is already doing it.

Because this is turning out to be a crazy work week, my dessert and I will have to bow out of Wednesday. It looks like there will be plenty though. Though I am very sad to miss it.

hi laura: the music is, unfortunately, usually very loud as the DJ for the night gets to play what they want....so you'll find yourself talking very loudly to be heard. it's not what i'd do, but i'm not in charge. but, yes, you can bring the little guy. there arent always enough seats and the bowls of soup are hot... but he would be welcome, i'm sure. i'll be there and will be happy to sit with spencer while you're trying soup.

I don't think I've ever seen a child there. It is a bar, after all. There may be a 21 year old to enter rule. There's someone at the front door that checks IDs. It's probably best to call ahead and check with the Hideout.

I've definitely seen kids there. But check the FAQs for the event (in my 1st post)--I'm pretty sure it's in there.

Thanks, everyone. Kids are allowed, according to the Hideout's website. We can always stop by and see if it works for him, and head somewhere else if it's too loud or whatever.

If so, I'll present something in line with Goat's Head Soup, which can be an island dish with 13ish connotations. Something along the lines of mannish water.
