I'll be there, along with my husband and our budding foodie.
Food - Filipino Pandesal Sliders (2 kinds) and Jackfruit Cupcakes
    - Chicken Adobo (chicken, caramelized onions & garlic in a tangy sauce)
    - Beef Mechado (beef & peppers in a sweet & savory tomato sauce)
    - Langka Cupcakes (sweet jackfruit cake with cream cheese frosting)

Edited to add: My parents are also visiting from overseas (Philippines) so if it's okay, I'd like to bring them along. Besides, they're the ones that inspired the dishes I'm bringing & my love of cooking afterall. :) So total 4 1/2 (my little 4 month old) in our party...

A few years ago for the picnic, I had planned on making "Aerofood" from the Futurist cookbook but became daunted by some hard-to-find ingredients (kumquat, carnation water) and challenging logistics (need for electricity, an electric fan, Wagner, and constant attention from a "nimble waiter," likely me). This seems to be the year to make a Marinetti creation happen, and I'm planning to prepare "The Excited Pig." (The Wife has already eye-rolled her way out of this one and may bring another plate, TBD).

The decision has been made: we'll bring both veg and non-veg banh mi.

If a more intriguing idea strikes me between now & the week before the picnic, I'll let post an update.

    I'm in +1 (and +1 child)

I'll be bringing one main meat dish and one side.

I'm assuming from the earlier posts mini-kegs are OK and there's no need to bring cups? I think I'm going full on grilled German, more details on the dishes as I figure them out.

    Pastrami starts curing tomorrow.

I will have a cold cooler full of water, but if anyone wants to bring more packs of water bottles, they are free to add them to the cooler as needed. Yeah, the plastic is less than ideal, but so is dehydration.

my guest count has increased. Will be me plus 6.

In addition to that 6 a friend of mine, David, asked me to let you know he plans on coming but he doesn't use internet. That will be a family with i think a few kids, so another 2 adults plus a few kids. Will RSVP with as much of the food as i know soon!

So, what are we up to so far, about 150? I'm thinking, 150 jars of pickled beets! Fortunately, I just learned how to make them!

p.s., those of you at Canning Boot Camp who "forgot" to take your pickled beets home with you, extra jars at the picnic for you.

We'll be out of town before so I'll plan to bring water and/or other drinks and whatever good snacks I can find between Milwaukee and the picnic.

I think I will try and make Sum Tom (Thai Green Papaya Salad), with the hope I can find unripened papaya in the Hinsdale or Oak Park area (the International Market Asian store in Westmont for some reason didn't have it when I just looked this week). I hereby allow the possibility that I may have to change my mind before picnic-time.

Was there a maximum attendee number listed somewhere? I'm asking because I'm a maybe at this point. if I can come at all, it would only be at the tail end. I don't want to take up a spot with a maybe if we're nearing some limit.

We've all been there. And some of us have done rather a lot about it, actually, for ourselves and others. I'll let it go at that.

    Stop by for some pastrami.

Ditto here, wondering about the limit. I'm running the Chicago Half Marathon that morning, so Legs and I will have to consult with Bike and Stomach to see if we can all make it up to Labagh Woods before sunset.

I'm still on the mend from some surgery I had a couple weeks back and cannot take on anything too ambitious this year. So, at this point, I'm planning on bringing some sort of gigantic deli sandwiches, cut into individual portions. I'll probably bring a few other treats, too. Of course, this is all subject to change . . .

Also, it looks like I'll be +4 (instead of +3), for a total of 5 in my group.

    Thanks,

Ill commit to what we are bringing.

Chicken wings as an appetizer(still debating on the style, Ill know that after another test run this weekend)

I am bringing my WSM to smoke the wings, but probably wont have space on there for anything else unless someone wants to kiss their dish with smoke once the wings come off.

We are arriving early(9:00 a.m. or so to get cooking and of course we will help with set-up, etc. one the prep is done and smoking has begun)
