The 4th Annual Festival of Barrel Aged Beer will take place at Goose Island Wrigleyville on Saturday, November 4th from 1 to 4pm. I went to a couple of the previous FoBABs and they were great events, with some of the most distinctive beers you'll find anywhere. Details can be found at http://illinoisbeer.com/

This is a fantastic event. I attended the last two years and I've already purchased tickets for this year. Many of the beers you can sample at the festival are unavailable anywhere else, or at best difficult to find. The beers aged in this way are usually strongly-flavored and have a high alcohol content, and then the aging process gives them more depth of flavor and, if the barrels were previously used, some of the character of the previous contents of the barrel (bourbon, port, etc).

In short, I approve of this festival and strongly encourage any other beer lovers out there to check it out if you haven't already.

This Saturday all of a sudden freed up. If you know of one or two tickets for sale, please let me know. Whether they do or not, have fun.

Is it sold out? I know the event has been growing every year, but in previous years I was always able to buy a ticket at the door.

I bought my tickets last week, but now I have a friend who decided last-minute that he wants to join me at the event, and he's coming in from out of town.

Well, we'll be in the neighborhood tonight, might as well stop by Goose and see if there are any still available.

Edit: well I just checked the site and it is. That's a darn shame.

We stopped by there anyway, last night, on the way to a concert, but they still didn't have any available. Jim just left to go downtown to Goose Island - he's hoping for a last-minute ticket for his friend. We'll see!! (My pregnant bod is staying home....or at least away from the festival for now.)
